Paul's Story

I hope my old friends remember that I'll be there for them, as long as I'm on this earth. From the time I was a little boy, I loved baseball. We grew up across the street from the Little League Field in Walterboro,Mayfield Terrace , corner of Thompson and May St. When balls were hit across the street,I'd hustle them down, since they came in my yard and I'd throw them back across the street. Mom would cut my butt if I crossed the street with out her. This started a love for a game, and then when I saw that I couldn't become a Major Leaguer, I thought, well...If I can help one child get the dream..So..I started coaching children with my French Teacher at WHS. Ernest R Gilliam, and we took the Jaycees team and did pretty well with them.. I think I must have coached for around 25 years in Walterboro, and then 4 years in Vidalia Ga, after we moved here. Of those years ,only 8 were coaching my own children. I coached cause I loved it. After high school, I hung around W'boro in and out of dead end jobs, and after my last GF and I split up, I decided to get out and see something else. I learned to weld and became a pipe welder with Daniel Construction out of Greenville SC.. People I met thru them started inviting me to come visit them in other states, and hiking around with them really helped me learn about Street smarts as well as Nature.. Man, I could tell some some stories of things that I have done, and places I have been, like Camping out in a 19' tall TeePee on top of Grandfather Mtn, NC New Years Eve, Yep, Dec 31 , 1973.. It was 20 degrees outside, and wind blowing 65 mph, minusing on the chill factor..If you want to know more, you have to ask... Lived in Berea Ky, Charlotte,NC, Barnwell SC, Elko SC, and back to Wboro, where I was a confirmed bachelor..Met a girl and three months later married her and we are still together, 30 years now..3 children, Luann, Ricky, Katie(born on my 40th birthday).. Spent right at 20 years with Liberty Life Ins Co of Greenville, and that is how I arrived in Vidalia. I was asked to take the Sales Mgrs job here for an office that was really sucking..( BAD !! ) For two years, we retained 4th place in the company, and I was forced out due to some backstabbing, and degenerative arthritis..It happens everywhere...Forgive and forget...yep...I can forgive, but it's hard to forget.. I started studying guitar, and have studied under many excellent...Expand for more
teachers, including Jamie Andreas, guitar virtuoso, and author in Woodstock NY, and Ney Mello, Brazillian Master, who lives near Baltimore. John Banks in Savannah, one of jazz legend Howard Robert's students, Bruce Spradley, adjunct professor of guitar at Armstrong Atlantic in Savannah Ga, and Peter Vogl, of Atlanta. Studied some classical with one of Christopher Berg's( professor of classical guitar at USC , Columbia) students Dale Reagan, of Savannah. I have been on disability from degenerative arthritis and a few other things since 1997. I am Happy, and I love to help others , whether it be in sports, music, guitar, or anything else I can do for them.. I personally invite any of you, whom I knew in schools, work, play,or people who do not know me at all to jot me a note and LET'S BE FREINDS.. Will add more later.. My first job was at Mowing lawns, where I got paid a couple dollars to cut grass. What I remember most about it is Summer is hot !!! Still enjoyed it. In 10 years, I hope to be still alive. I'm going to get there by taking better care. The best one was the pony league baseball team that Bill Drawdy and I coached in 1972 that won the state championship against all odds. What a thrill especially in the championship game coming back from a 5-0 deficit to win 7-5.. In Late Oct of 2010, I had another hip replacement, and now, after 14 years of not being able to walk without crutches, I can walk..It feels so good, but like learning how to walk all over again..Still having some weakness, but not like before.. A few trips to Walterboro, in 2010 and 11, found me renewing a few old friendships, and only wish I could get back home more.. I'm teaching a couple of guitar students and looking for a part time job.. My wife and I are both going thru some medical issues, but no need getting into them. I started eating a total plant based diet in late July of 2011 and today is my 430th day of this.. Have dropped some weight and energy level is so much higher now.. At this time, I can say, that I don't think I will ever go back to being a carnivore/ meat eater.. I'm total vegan now...and liking it more and more... I have become certified as a Hallelujah Acres HEalth Minister and if you need any help with your health issues, let me share things you can do to help.. God Bless All of you... My cell phone is 912-585-8001 , you may call, but please, no calls after 8 pm...
