Paul's Story
Life
I graduated from LC in 1985. I went to Lehigh Univ and graduated in 1989 with BS in Chemical Engineering. Went to work for a large engineering firm (Foster Wheeler). Lived in NJ for 4 years. Met my wife at a single's dance at Corpus Christi in early 1991. Got married in 1994. Bought house in Doylestown in 1994. I have 2 children: Thomas (born 1999), Jacob (born 2001). In 2007 we moved to Horsham and bought my wife's parents' house. My wife is a pharmacist.
I got laid off from first job in 2002. I got involved with Primerica Financial. I took a sales admin job in Somerset NJ. I stayed only 6 months since I saw my career in a dead end there (March 2003). I pursued my Primerica business full-time for a year until March 2004. Since I jumped into that prematurely full-time, I had to get a job. For 9 months I worked in sales admin again in a private chemical company in Philly. In Jan 2005 a former coworker helped me get an engineering job with Jacobs Engineering, in south Jersey. In Jan 2006 a former client hired me into Headwaters Technology outside of Trenton. I worked in pilot plant testing of new technology for the oil industry. After 3 years I got laid off due to financial problems with the parent company. I spent 2009 unemployed. In Dec 2009 I got hired by WorleyParsons as an engineer in ...Expand for more
West Virginia for the Dept of Energy on electric power projects. My wife and kids are staying in PA. I commute home on weekends.
I stay in touch with LC alums Tom Byrne ('85) in Delaware and Mike Jurewicz ('85) in New York. Tom was married in 2003 and is a sports journalist. You may see him on WHYY. Mike got married in 1990, has 2 kids and is a meteorologist with the Natl Weather Service.
College
Frosh year: Lived in Williams (Lower Cents) on Quiet Study floor. Went through usual engineering curriculum. Had very good grades.
Soph year: Lived in Upper Cents (the one dorm that was not yet a sorority). Many of the guys had fun picking on the girls next door. Went into ChemEng program. Good grades in fall, OK grades in spring. Took summer job with Rohm & Haas R&D.
Junior year: Lived in Brodhead. Roomed with Rob Mangold (89), Todd Stackhouse (88) and Joe Lutsky (88)--all engineering majors. Courses got tough. Had great summer job with AT&T Microelectronics working with computer chips.
Senior year: Lived again in Brodhead. Roomed again with Rob Mangold, plus two juniors (I forget their names). All engineering majors, of course. Course work got nasty. Failed a course in the fall--looks great for interviewing in the spring. Didn't party like most seniors.
Happy to graduate & get a full time job.
