Paul's Story
Life
After HS graduation in '57, I attended George Fox College. Took 7 years to graduate. Got married in 1961 and worked while wife was finishing college.
Then attended Western Business University, Portland, learned machine accounting (punched cards) then computer programming. Worked a while at Emanuel Hospital, Portland, then Sawyers/GAF in Progress.
Later, 7 years programming at United Data Processing and then 7 more at American Data Services. All in Portland. In 1981, began data commuications consulting and worked for Bankmatic Systems in Beaverton. Lots of travel.
Left there at end of 1985 for telecommunications mgr. in Bellevue, WA. Systems Analysis, Inc. In 1987, three of us from the company and one from Unisys Corp. formed Softchec, Inc. in Kirkland, WA. Lots more programming and travel. We sold company in 1997.
Wife and I moved to Redmond, OR. I bought 45% of an electronic assembly service in 2000. One customer! ...Expand for more
Slowly grew to $1,000,000 sales in 2006. This year is much less.
Lost partner due to cancer in 2004. Bought his shares from widow in 2005. So, now I own all outstanding shares.
Still trying to retire. Go to plant 4 days a week. Get to answer the phone, machine metal when tooling is needed, get to approve purchases, that is scary when you sign for $120,000 machine.
Our place in the country in Redmond is now surrounded by the city. We waited a little too long to sell, so we hve it and a 6.25 acre place at Crooked River Ranch, which is about 15 miles NW of the Redmond place. We are going to rent out the Redmond place until a developer-buyer makes us an offer.
We have 2 sons, one lives in Aloha, OR and the oth in Pomona, CA. Two grandsons live with their mother in Rancho Cordova, CA and one with his mother in Corvallis.
Hobbies include: amateur radio (ham) KD7HB, home shop metal working, gardening, genealogy, camping, travel.
