Paul's Story
I've been married to East Leyden grad Marilyn Carlson (class of '71) since 1977. We've been blessed with three daughters.
We live in Schaumburg, Illinois, and attend Willow Creek Community Church. There are two fellow grads from the EL class of '68 living in my precinct: Ted Roberts and Susan DeVos.
I'm honored to represent the greater Schaumburg area in the Illinois House of Representaives (56th district) since 2003. State Rep is the fifth office voters have elected me to.
One of those previous elective offices was Schaumburg Township Republican Committee...Expand for more
man, which is the leader of the local party. In 2007, however, after growing disenchantment with the GOP, I resigned as Republican Committeeman and walked across the aisle in Springfield where I joined the Democratic caucus.
Many Republicans were outraged and vowed vengence against "the traitor," going so far as to compare me to Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, the Soviet spies who were executed in the 1950s. The state Republicans spent over $200,000 attacking me before the Nov. 4, 2008 election. Voters nevertheless re-elected me to a fourth term by a margin of 58-42%.
