Paul's Story
Life
I had a career change and I left NS in 1990 to work as an Air Traffic Controller in Alberta. I remained in Alberta until 2000 when I was transferred to Dartmouth. It was nice to be back in the Maritimes. I managed to stay in Dartmouth for 6 years before I accepted a position as the Chief of Aerospace Policy in Izmir, Turkey. We thoroughly enjoy our life in Turkey. Constant sunshine, swimming in the Aegean and Mediterranean sea, sailing, touring and did I mention sunshine!
Yes, we...the family. Through a twist of fate, I married my long time friend, Heather. We had our first child, Rachel in 1996 and our second child, Dawson in 1999.
During our time in Turkey, we have visited Africa, Austria, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. We just hope the kids remember the experience.
We moved from Turkey to Germany in 2008 where I once again stepped outside of my comfort zone and took on another job that required a steep learning curve. The life adventure continued with many more travels throug...Expand for more
hout the world. I did work in Afghanistan as the Chief of Airspace Management and had the unpleasant visit by a suicide bomber. Lucky he only made it to the main gate before he detonated the vehicle bomb.
Moved back to Canada in 2010 as a Mission Crew Commander and Flight Commander. Yes, another career path change to keep the mind entertained. What is up with all the snow and cold weather??? Great to be back but I'm sure I'll be heading back to another adventure in a few years.
Off an running again in 2012 to work with the Unite States Air Force flying on an E-3. Deployed again to fly missions over Afghanistan and the Persian Gulf. Crazy life as we are always on the move. Nice to see the world but Canada will always be home.
Back to Canada in 2015 as Standards and Evaluations which makes 5 moves in the last 9 years. Kinda tired of packing and unpacking so this could result in a long stay. Who am I kidding, just waiting for the next adventure to take me to another sunny location before retirement.
