Paul's Story
Life
I have been married to Julie Wells (maiden name) since 1990 (yes, the same girl from highschool!) and we have one daughter, Katherine (Katie) born in 1997.
Life in Halifax is a lot more laid-back than in Ontario and Nova Scotia is a great place to raise a family and enjoy the outdoors.
School
After Chinguacousy, I attended U of T and received a B.A.Sc. in Chemical Engineering. After about 1.5 years in the workforce, I decided to pursue a graduate degree. I returned to U of T and obtained a M.A.Sc. in Biomaterials and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering. At the end I felt I had been at U of T as long as some of the faculty!
Workplace
After finishing my Ph.D. in 1999, I was offered and accepted a faculty position in the new School of Biomedical Engineering at...Expand for more
Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I currently am a tenured Associate Professor in the School of Biomedical Engineering and cross appointed to the Department of Process Engineering and Applied Science and Department Surgery in Medicine. My research is in the areas of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine.

Being an academic is pretty much a 24/7 job, but it does have its benefits. I enjoy teaching and research, although I could do with less the administrative stuff!
