Paul's Story

Life Born in Drunen, the Netherlands. Lived in Holland, New York, New Jersey, Tennessee, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Ohio, Texas and Brazil. Dad passed away in 1993 but Mom's still with us and living in Carolina. She's doing well, thank God, and we try to get together as often as the work and personal schedule allows (not often enough). My Spouse I was sitting in the student center at the University of Tennessee, playing bridge with a group of friends. Winnie was with a friend of mine & I got distracted and interested. Before 2 weeks had passed, we had begun to date. The rest is good history. For the past 26 years, she has been a floral designer and interior decorator. 5 years ago she was inducted into the American Institute of Floral Design which is quite a distinction in her business/art. She manages a flower & gift shop along with doing floral design consulting in China about 4 weeks a year. She has the pleasure of working her hobby/art every day and getting paid for it; that's a great thing when people are lucky enough to do it. My Pets "Billy Rae" is our 8 year old caramel colored beagle. He's our 4 legged replacement for our son, Jason, who left the nest 5 years ago. The dog is a pretty good substitute - asks for affection but not money! My "Kid" Jason has been a great son. We weren't sure we'd survive the terrible 2s, 3s or 4s, but obviously we made it; he's 31 and got married 7/7/07. His wife is his perfect match and after a picturebook wedding and Hawaiian island cruise for a honeymoon, they're off to a great start. Empty-nesting has been a bit of an adjustment for us, but Jason stays in touch by phone and email on a regular basis and that keeps us happy. Most importantly, he's healthy and is making good life-decisions. ...Expand for more
At one time, I wondered if that might be jeopardized as we moved him around a lot on Goodyear transfers, which he did without complaint. He was an good student in 5 different elementary schools and attended high school in Texas, Brazil and graduated from High School in Ohio. He attended Belmont University, Tennessee Tech, Tennessee State and is will graduate from his current school, Charleston Southern University in South Carolina. He says he wants to get his MBA next, and with the determination he's shown to date, it should be a cake walk for him. His main interest as an early undergrad was in music business administration. He had a band named "MABRY" that was a locally successful alternative rock band and was able to show that he was a strong songwriter. He is the manager of a GUESS, INC clothing store in Chaleston, SC. My Job I'm currently Manager of Global Product Support for Aviation Tires (Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co). With a team of 11 regional managers covering all corners of the globe, the product support team has responsibilities to provide technical expertise to customers ranging from Airframe manufacturers, General Aviation, Commercial Airlines, the Military, and Civil & Federal Aviation Authorities. In a nutshell, we are the technical arm of the sales organization and we also liaise with our tire technology division and tactical business unit. On an annual basis, I attempt to travel to each region's major aviation customers, work with them as part of their "team," and help ensure our global support to them. We're proud to say that Goodyear enjoys about 50% market share in aviation tires. To date, I've beem to 38 countries through my work in the company... quite a perk while doing work. Life's been good - to say the least.
