Paul's Story
Life
single again since 2007
I crank up the victrola once a month and listen to "Stars and Stripes forever", I still play 8-track tapes, cassettes, and CD's. I love old music: big band, jazz, Zydeco & classical...everything but RAP(I don't understand what they're saying) I played the violin for 8 years (not professionally)though I've had people asked me to play my violin in restaurants...I always tell them the best time for me to play is at closing time (to get customers running for the doors) I don't play as much anymore as I'm getting a bit of Arthritis in my right wrist.
I Tell people to make amends with their folks & siblings as much as possible, life is too short to carry regrets the rest of your life!
I get together with NBHS friends, not as much as I would like, but we still do and have a great time. I live in NB and work in Beaver (20 minute drive to work every day)
I always have a laugh with Mr. Fischer, Mr. Wilson,
Mr. Mahosky, Mr. Donnelly & Mr. Saltzer. A few years ago I was asked to come to NB Middle School and give a talk to a science class on...what else..."Rocks"! I had never given a speech prior, so I called my former teachers for advice. I had a great time talking and showing off my rock collection, plus I took some Diamonds too. I remember a teacher from another classroom (who had a free class) asked if she could look at the diamonds...get 'em any way you can!
In September 2005, it was the end of 23 years in business for me, I've learned that everything changes around us. Yet sometimes you can't see the changes cause they are so small but gradually everything changes and everyone changes...that just how life is. So that chapter is closed, I'm anticipating the next chapter to start...still waiting...(this is hard)...and waiting...but the real truth is...I MISS MY BUSINESS AND the LIFE I had.
After searching for almost 1 year I found a job that is so totally different from what I've been doing all my life. I work at Eaton corp. at the old Westinghouse plant in Beaver. I assemble parts used in making industrial circuit breakers, I love it!!! You work 40 hours a week, you get paid for 40 hours a week and the best part is that the pay check is weekly and consistant, why oh why didn't I do this 20 years ago? I been there for a little over 5-1/2 years, the funny thing is I feel like I've always been working there, in a good way.
Unsure about the dating thing but I've met some wonderful people and I'm venturing out again...I don't know if its possible to just be friends without all the emotions. I would like to meet someone and have someone to spend my life with. Remember Flip Wilson as Geraldine? He/she said it the best: "What you see is what you get". Take me as I am.
I still do alot of photography and really enjoy using my Digital camera. I wrote a couple songs, waiting to hear if they'll be a hit for some singer. I still write poetry and dabbling with a book to write. I'm cutting gems again, after 20 years! I think I'd like to get a camcorder to make a movie (a clean movie)...I don't know what about yet, but it'll happen...soon. I enjoy being on the Class Reunion Committee, we work hard and have fun at it.
Remember: "Do something nice for someone!"

Workplace
As of August 1, 2003 I celebrated owning my own business for 23 years!(It feels like 40 years though) The best part of working with jewelry is being able to doodle, come up with a design and create the finished product just as what the customer wanted. I get a great deal of satisfaction when the customer said, "This is just the way I wanted it to be!" I still wished I had been a Geologist, but I still work with rocks. Business has been slow this year, I could use a few more customers, maybe 2004 will have prosperity for all...
As of September 30th, 2005 I have closed my business for good...what a 23 year roller coaster ride it has been. Nothing stays the same, everything changes. Do I miss it...I miss some of my customers, most of my fellow merchants, but I don't miss the stress! Now for reeducation!!! Male Stripper or radio announcer...a tough decision to make...I tried the stripper route...I found out the only kind of stripping I am good at is...stripping the floors! but seriously, I found out just how much the world has changed in 24 years, I don't even qualify to work in my field since I don't have at least a 2 year degree in computers! I guess it doesn't matter I have 26 years of jewelry repair knowledge. I've been told by some classmates that I've been given a second chance...to follow my dream. so as of recently I've taken classes in sketching and photography. I'm focusing more towards the Arts. Maybe cinematography, or at least photography...why fight against what I love to do...take pictures!
I will be glad when 2006 is over, a lot has happened this year that still has me shaking my head in disbelief. As for schooling, not enough funds plus the few course I took must have been written in a foreign language...I just couldn't understand what was being discussed. After being unemployed for almost 1 year...with God's help I landed a job! Ok, it's not Jewelry, but they pay me... weekly!!! I work for EATON Electrical Corp. (the old Westinghouse plant) in Beaver, PA. I've been there almost 3 months (12/11/06), and you know what? I should have closed my business 20 years ago and got a job here. I Love it. It's fairly easy plus...you get a weekly paycheck! I'm 15 minutes from work, and you can't beat that, plus the pay you...weekly! I always get asked at work, "Is your chair broken?" I lower the chair to the lowest position and it looks like I'm sitting on the floor. I sat that way for 27 years working on the Jewelry repair bench, I'm use to it, plus these darn bifocals I can use them without stretching my neck and back. I'm in my "comfort zone" as I tell them. Frankly I think everyone should sit this low as your feet are flat on the floor and knees bent 90 degrees, plus your back is against the back rest! All in all this is the BEST thing that could have happened to me, and I thank God everyday for making me a happier person...at least at work!
As of 9/11 I've been working at my present job for 5-1/2+ years, I must be the only one who is excited over this! I'm venturing out into the dating world again...cautiously this time. looking forward to Spring and teaching my jewelry course again. did I say I love my job!
