Paul's Story
Married since 1982 to my high school sweetheart (Estela Carpenter). We have 3 fantastic adult-children and two grand-children. My family has followed me all over this country and Europe during my 41 years in the Army. During my time as an Army Aviator, I have served in Germany (twice), Korea (twice), the United Kingdom, Fort Rucker, AL (numerous times), Fort Belvoir, VA, Fort Hood, TX, Fort Polk, LA, Patuxent River NAS, MD, Redstone Arsenal, AL, and Fort Eustis, VA. During my second tour in Germany I was deployed to Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom as an AH-64D Apache pilot and master gunner. During most of my career I have flown both the AH-64A and AH-64D/E Apache helicopters. Although I am also rated in the OH-58C, UH-1H, OH-6, and the UH-60 (helicopters), as well as the C-12 airplane. er. In 2007 I graduated from the US Naval Test Pilot School. As a result, I have now flown over 35 different types of aircraft including gliders, seaplanes, numerous types of helicopters (from the R-44 to the Merlin), and several high performance fixed-wing aircraft (including the T-38C Talon and F/A-18B Hornet). On 1 October 2013 I was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer Five (CW5); the highest warrant officer rank in the military. I recently returned from a 3-year tour of duty in the United Kingdom where I was serving as the US Army Exchange Test Pilot at the UK's Rotary Wing Test Squadron at Boscombe Down, England. There I flew the Gazelle, Apache, Merlin, Agusta 109E, H125, and the Griffin. I am now back at Fort Eustis, VA working as a Test Director and Experimental Test Pilot. Most likey I will retire next year with over 42 years of military service.
