Paul's Story

Career: Currently a Retired IT Security Consultant; currently volunteering for various public/civic organizations. Previously a Senior IT Security Managing Consultant, IT Information Security Director, Sr. Consulting Mgr of IT Assurance Services, Chief Information Security Officer, Senior IT Risk Consultant, and VP of IT Security, 2nd VP (IT Auditing). Pioneered NYU's Virtual College in the 1990's as Adjunct Professor in the Graduate Division of NYU's School of Professional Studies (formerly NYU's School of Continuing Education). Personal First marriage (to Michelle) from 1971 to 2002 - three daughters from that marriage (Emily - 1974, Jodi - 1977, and Deborah 1985). Jodi passed away in 2004; two surviving daughters Emily (formerly the Bureau Chief for the Washington Post in Africa and India - now back in DC still with the Washington Post and raising a family (grandson and granddaughter). Debbie married with one daughter (Granddaughter to me). Second marriage (to Risa) in 2007 - now living in Sarasota Florida - In excellent health and very active in our community via various public/civic organizations Education Attended night college courses (both undergrad and graduate) after returning from the military (See below) in 1969 - took nearly 14 years of evening courses to attain my Associates, Bachelors and Masters while raising a family in Central NJ and climbing up the corporate ladder. Also instructed graduate courses (after graduating in 1984) in Information Security and Information Systems Auditing at both The New School and NYU. Recipient of NYU's Teaching Excellence Award in 1996. Have conducted seminars and lectures outside of academia for various professional associations (EDPAA, CSI, ISACA, etc.). Military Drafted January 1968 - assignments to Southeast Asia - Thailand, South Viet-Nam, Laos, and Cambodia. Trained and assigned as a Telecommunications Specialist working with encrypted data transmissions and electronic espionage/surveillance. Received an "early out" due to being in a hardship zone (mainly because of Viet-Nam duty) with less than 6 months left when returning stateside (October 1969). Hated the whole thing - but have some interesting memories. Life goes on - and it is not a spectator sport - you are constantly on the field! I always wanted to be a Astronaut when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a hopeless idea. As it turns out, they were right!!!. But, I am also an Amateur Astronomer (member of the Planetary Society and Sarasota's "Local Group of Deep Sky Observers".) Also, in progress forming an Oldies Band in Sarasota "The Moldy Oldies" (playing Rhythm Guitar and Back up Vocals). I once was a Rhythm Guitarist (and Back Up Vocalist) for the Gamboge (1965-1967, 1969-1970), and the Sound Bytes (1998-2001). Currently involved with Florida Studio Theater's IMPROV - second stage group. "Living the good life, well you know"! I blow off steam with a tea kettle! I need to have/play music, be creative and enjoy being with people of all sorts, races, and beliefs. Old and dear friends never ...Expand for more
forgotten and still in touch with them. My favorite hero? Well, I would say Ham and Swiss, with a little lettuce, mustard, and onion. Oh, I'm sorry - now I get it - Elon Musk - the Thomas Alva Edison of the 21st Century, of course! I love Pickle Ball, Baseball, Cycling, Swimming, Gym Workouts (4x a week - 2 Hrs each Workout) NO Reality TV, obsessed with pop culture - especially the 1960's. Hate Trump (aka President Bonespurs) My current home in Sarasota does not need any more improvements - all furniture, appliances, artwork, etc are just the way my wife and I want it. My dream home, however, would be in either San Francisco or San Diego, but where I am now will do for now - I consider myself very lucky to be where I am today at this stage of my life - healthy, happy, and financially sound. If I won $100 million, I'd give some of it to my Daughters and Grandchildren - then spend the rest on Risa and I, Traveling, doing volunteer work and enjoying life in a moderate way.. My current age is 70 (actually, I'm a 7 year old 10 times over!) When I was 12, I thought that by my age I would now be real old or dead! I was so completely wrong!. At least the dead part! (Some people may disagree!) My best friends would tell you I'm sane, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as crazy. I also make my own clothing and speak fluent Mongolian (Just kidding!) I share my home with my wife Risa, which I find to be the best wife and friend a guy can be married to. In 10 years, I hope to be still living well. So I may find grace if I'm lucky enough. My best long standing friend - Marc Z (whom I still keep in touch with) - we lived on the same block in Canarsie - Bristol Street - used to hang out in Colony Bowl to pick up girls - and long walks down to the Canarsie Bay via Rockaway Parkway, talking and sharing our experiences with them (the girls!) My first job was in magazine subscription sales (public) company, where I got paid on commission to get people to buy subscriptions to Time, Life, and Look magazines plus five others (for free) it they paid $5 a month for two years.. What I remember most about it is the b.s. artist they wanted you to be to get people hooked on subscribing directly from the publisher (Time - Life). I did not do so well because I was too honest! A persisting memory I have is when I went swimming in a NJ lake - I was about 6 years old - with my Mom and Dad for a Knights of Pythias Cookout (My Dad was a member) I could not swim without a tube at that age - and did not have one, so I asked this lady on the edge of the lake where she let me borrow hers (it was her daughter's who was with her Dad getting ice cream or something like that). When I came back, she was gone, and I felt very guilty that I could not return the tube to her. Does anyone out there remember leaving a lake in NJ and forgetting to get their tube back? Hey, sorry, but I don't have it anymore!!!! Did you expect me to keep that tube! I'm not THAT guilty! Well, as Porky Pig always said "Ththththththththe That's All, Folks!"
