Paul's Story
After college I got married (Maureen Horan) and then joined the Navy as a Supply Corps Officer. Had a successful career, qualifying in submarines and completing three deterrent patrols. Also served on two forward deployed submarine tenders on the islands of Guam in the Pacific and Sardinia in the Mediterranean Sea. The Navy sent me to grad school and I completed an MS in management with emphasis on systems acquisition management.
After retiring from the Navy I began teaching middle school mathematics, gradually working through different grades. Recently, I moved into the role of Instructional Math Coach working with schools in improvement throughout the division. This was more challenging and kept me on the road a lot rather than at one particular school. Finally, disgusted with the current state of education, I quit (retired) in October 2014.

usetts and am now a certified Kripalu yoga teacher. I teach several classes a week at local studios and also volunteer time teaching at the local cancer center.
Maureen and I just passed 35 years of marriage. In January 2012 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had surgery and radiation. Still in the waiting phase but all looks good. I continue to enjoy playing the bassoon. We also enjoy bicycling and own several (!) bikes, including a Santana tandem we bought 20 years ago for our 15 anniversary and more recent;y a Bike Friday travel tandem for our 35th anniversary.
We ended up living in Lynchburg, Virginia as this is where my father and all his family hail from. We have enjoyed settling in here. This is our 16th year in this house and that is the absolute longest I have ever lived in any house anywhere. It's nice to finally feel rooted, yet I miss the travel days of my young Navy career! Lynchburg is a good place, close to the mountains yet only a few hours from the ocean, so I guess we'll stay here.
