Paula's Story
I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were wrong. I tutored a little boy and that went badly and that changed my mind quickly. I then went to JCCC and studied what they told me to, and also took psych and photog. I found a job with a photog studio and began a six year career as a professional portait photog. I quit to get a job with better pay and insurance so I could start a family. After my dau was born, I worked in the school district as a para so I could be off with her in the summers. I divorced, held down three jobs, was in a play and met my second husband. We had a baby boy in 1995 and I started working at SMMC so I could take him to work with me. I needed better pay and ins again and started working at Ask a Nurse and worked evenings. I am still there and love it! Who knew?!
The biggest surprise I have had in my life is having a baby at 41!
If I won $100 million, I'd give 10% of it to charity, then spend the rest on a new house, cars and then save the rest.
My current age is 58. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be old. I was so completely wrong.
My first job was at Kmart, where I got paid 25 cents to sell...Expand for more
wigs. What I remember most about it is selling a white page boy wig to an old lady.
I loved grade school and high school. During both I had Sheryl as a best friend. We met in first grade at Nieman and are still best friends. I of course have other best friends now and along the way, thank God, but she has stuck with me all those years and still loves me.
A childhood memory still with me is riding the school bus with Mrs. Booth. Remember the ditches at the side of the road in Shawnee back then? Well, when she turned a corner you just knew you were going to end up in that ditch! Remember how we had to be silent!! She was probably praying!!
I will surprise my classmates by being heavy. Think Miss Piggy. She was always my alter ego anyway, but now she and I look alike. It happened when I got colon cancer. The cancer zaped my metabolism and then my appendix was removed and I went into instant menopause because my ovaries were also removed, thanks to the cancer surgery. Good thing, too, I had precancer in my ovaries. Only one of many miracles I have experienced in my life. I guess you could say my passion has always been my relationship with Jesus. It still is.
I am looking forward to the reunion. Like live Facebook!
