Paula's Story
Life
The Pearl That is Paula
My husband Ed decided that he wanted to retire and live near the beach so after living in New York City for 16 years (and my husband for 23 years), we relocated to Waveland, Mississippi on the Gulf Coast in 2005. We moved into our brand new home about a mile and a half from the beach seven weeks before Hurricane Katrina practically devastated the entire Gulf Coast region. We lost 99% of what we owned. It has been quite a journey of rebuilding, recovery, and restoration. We spent nearly a year in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where we had evacuated to from the storm. We were very blessed and fortunate to have had flood insurance in addition to our homeowner's insurance. This allowed us to repair and restore our home. We moved back in on June 1, 2006, the first day of the 2006-2007 hurricane season. We had and continue to have unwavering support from family, friends, and strangers. My personal experience of Katrina is documented in a forthcoming book.
As for what we are up to now, I began seminary in 2004. It is challenging and life-altering. Upon completion I plan to pursue a further degree and training in counseling. I...Expand for more
am also considering ordination in the United Methodist Church. My husband is an artist and designer and is building a clientele. He does airbrush/oil painting, stained glass, and jewelry. We've been married for 17 years, and I've been with Mary Kay Cosmetics for 18 years. We love entertaining in our home and have had family and friends from coast to coast come spend time with us. We welcome anyone who happens to be in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Area.
Being a Louisiana native with family there as well as in Texas, Alabama, and Georgia, it was no problem leaving the Big Apple. I do have family in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC, who have yet to visit, and I hope they'll come soon.
I turned 40 this February (believe it!), and life could not be sweeter. I have been through much (September 11 attacks and blackouts in New York, hurricane Katrina, some deaths and pain), but the best is yet to come. There is more to do. Like the most exquisite pearl, it is taking time for me to form. I am a work in progress. As the saying goes, "Life is in the journey, not the destination." And what journey it has been thus far!!
Peace and Passion,
Paula
