Paula's Story
Life
I divorced in 1993, after 21 years of marriage. My children, Valerie, Christian, Adam, Joshua and Gretchen, are all beautiful, fun, and funny, and have enriched my life so! On May 9, 2005, my oldest daughter, Valerie, gave me my first grandchild, a little red-headed Irishman and in May of 2010, little Harvey arrived! Adam and Joshua both live in San Diego, and Adam and his wife gave me my 1st grandaughter in September of 2006 and another one in November of 2009. Joshua married his beautiful, sweet Jessica in October, 2008 and they are expecting a son in March of 2012. Gretchen is an incredible photographer, but pays the bills by working as a server in a restaurant in San Francisco , where she attends art school. Christian lives in Dallas, unmarried, and works for Zales. I have a Master's in counseling and have retired as a high school counselor at Fair Park High School. Debbie Hardaway is still my best friend and we have helped each other through many life experiences, sharing laughter and tears! I married again on March 29, 2003, to the greatest guy in the world, Bill Sample, and am happier than I have ever been! He has two grown sons. Knighton and wife, Alice had a beautiful little girl in April, 2007 and boy in October, 2009 and...Expand for more
live in Shreveport. Grey is an attorney and has been studying international criminal law in Europe this year. With 7 kids between us, we look forward to many great years of family fun and memories.
College
Unfortunately, I dated only one person from the first week of school, and ended up marrying during my sophomore year. The result was that I had very few fun experiences at college. I regret not getting involved in more things or dating more people. My advise to kids today would be to experience lots of things and people while in school (and several years after!)
I no longer have any family in Plain Dealing, and very seldom go there. The last time was with my family, to scatter the ashes of my brother, Sandy, who was killed in a bicycle accident in San Diego on March 17, 2008. I find it hard to even write these words, because it is still so unreal to me. Sandy lived life to the fullest and enjoyed every minute. His integrity, loyalty and kindness were praised by everyone who spoke at his memorial service. We all miss him so much. His death is a lesson that we should never take one day for granted, should spend as much quality time with friends and family as possible and should never be afraid to tell those we love just how much we do so.
