Paulette's Story
Many Lives
After graduating from MHC in 1967, I worked briefly as a social worker; however, was not pleased with my chosen profession. I joined the United States Air Force in November 1967, and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in February 1968. My next stop was Dayton, Ohio (Wright Patterson AFB) for my first duty assignment. Two years later I married a very sweet Southern gentleman who was also a 2nd Lieutenant and we traveled together to our next assignment in Osan, Korea. From there we moved to Biloxi, Missippi and later back to Headquarters Air Training Command in San Antonio.
After my husband experienced a brief, but serious illness, I resigned my commission (Captain at that time) so that we could begin our family. Our next adventure was the birth of our first daughter in San Antonio. Shortly after she arri...Expand for more
ved, we were reassigned to Los Angeles, CA where my husband taught ROTC at University of Southern California. Unfortunately, just before our second daughter was born (on her father's birthday), his illness recurred. He lost his battle with cancer two years later.
As a military widow, I was blessed with an income that allowed me to stay at home to rear our daughters who are now thankfully through college, grad school and husbands whom I love.
I fiinished my working (outside the home) career with the VA Medical Center where I was an After Hours Administrator. The job was amazing in that I was able to meet with, assist and share stories with many veterans.
I remarried in 2005, live happily in the country, have a Bassett Hound, drive a Mustang (finally!) and a John Deere!
