Peggy's Story

I retired after 25 1/2 years with the State: Rehabilitation Services. My husband, Harold & I have been married 47 years this August. We have two children. A daughter, Cathy, lives here in LaGrange and a Son, Marty, who lives in Alpharetta. Both are married. We have two Granddaughters and two step-gransons that live in LaGrange. My favorite past time activities are my Grandchildren, Scrapbooking, and I have recently taken up Line Dancing lessons which I am enjoying so much. I also go to Curves. I am involved in activities at First Baptist Church. I am also a member of an International social & cultural sorority. I love talking and sharing about Dunson. The reunion last year was so good and is going to be even better this year. Can't wait to see who all may come. I always wanted to be a Mother & Gandmother when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were right. For relaxation I enjoy meditating, scrapbooking, & exercising, and spending time with my Grandchildren. My hero was always my Mom. My goal was to be as good a Mom and Grandmother as she was. I have only lived away from LaGrange 11 months when my husband was transferred with Milliken to McCormick, S.C. - We lived in Greenwood and it was o.k., but we never saw my husband so we moved back home - the best place in the world to raise your children. A person I'd most like to see again is Dinky Heath who had such an influence in my life. Of course, she is in Heaven now and I hope it will be a while before I can actually see her again. She meant so much to so many young people from Dunson. I thought I'd have more Grandchildren and would love to, but guess I'll have to wait on Great-Grandchildren and hope that will be a while. My oldest Grandaughter will graduate this year from Troup High School and is going to pursue a nursing degree so I want her to wait until after then to start a family. The teacher I'd love to see again would be Miss Edna ...Expand for more
Duncan who I stayed in close contact with as an adult. I use to laugh and call her my personal counselor. She was one special lady. I could talk to her about anything. She never forgot her students names and knew where most of them were. A true dedicated teacher. I can truly say I am happy and content now. It wouldn't hurt to have a little more money and be able to share it with others and be able to travel some. My current age is 68. When I was 12 I thought that people my age would be sitting in recliners and watching T.V. but I was so completely wrong because I don't feel that "old" now. My first real crush is still around and actually we are friends. I only share my house with the love of my life - my husband, Harold, who is the person who holds my world together. If I could have a do-over I would not fret over the small stuff especially with my children. I would treat them more like I treat my Grandchilden. I was a little strict with my children. In 10 years I hope to still be alive and kicking like my Mom did. I'm going to try to get there by taking better care of myself. I think everyone at my high school reunion will be most surprised about my weight since I have lost 114 lbs.in the past two years. I also am not quite as shy as I was in high school. My first job was inspecting cloth at Dunson Mill making minimum wage which was not much (can't rememer exactly how much it was) because I couldn't get a job anywhere else in LaG. I didn't choose to go to college. After about six months I got a job at Life of Ga. Insurance Co. making $35 per wk. What I remember most about it was that I met my husband there. I remember growing up on Dunson Mill Village where everyone was family and you felt safe no matter where you were. Everyone cared for everyone and you knew everyone. Of course, if you did something wrong, you parents knew it before you got back home. It was such a secure environment. I wish my Grandchildren could feel that today.
