Penelope's Story
Life
Only one biography? But I've had so many lives!
In short: I am a thoroughly serious dilettante, married for sixteen years to a charming Frenchman six years younger than I, whom I met in a train station and married two years later in the Anglican church in Geneva. We live in a crumbling manor house on a mountainside in Savoie, one hour from Switzerland and two hours from Italy. I left New York because of a respiratory problem, I've experienced a nearly complete separation between investment--that is, the degree of engagement and effort that I put into a job or work project--and the material payoff. I'm grateful also for my supportive husband, who respects my values even though he comes from a simpler background and we often have to struggle to make ends meet.
