Penni's Story

Life I got married a few days after graduating high school. However, it did not work out and after 11 1/2 yrs, my marriage ended. I then became a single mom to my three children who were 9 and 7 yrs old, , and 2 months. Now they are all grown up and all are married, Marcy (to Michael), Troy (to Ciara), and Joanna (to Shawn). I have 8 wonderful grandkids, Hunter, Hayley, Madison, Emily, Kara, Clark, and Wyatt. Marcy lost a baby boy named Haiden July 27, 2006 and he was only 13 weeks old. His death was ruled as SIDS. We still feel the loss as if it were yesterday, and I still count him in the number of grandchildren. My daughters are married to Air Force men, and my son served 9 yrs in the Air Force, but is now out and working with my brother, Rusty. They all live in different states:Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Georgia. I wish they lived closer to each other and to me. We moved from Van Buren, Arkansas when I was starting my Junior year at VBHS in 1973 to Lumberton, North Carolina. I graduated Orrum High School in 1974. I did not continue my education until later in life. I graduated Robeson Community College in 1997 with an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood. I was a Marshal in 1996. I was inducted into the first Phi Theta Kappa honor group in 1996 for RCC. I worked in the library at RCC and made great friends there. I have three indoor cats. I used to live next door to my parents but they moved to live with my brother in Georgia. I worked for a non profit resource and referral agency as the asst. resource l...Expand for more
ibrarian for almost 10 years, until they closed Feb. 2010. I then became employed in March 2010 by the agency that took over the resource lending library as the head librarian. Anyone who knows me now knows that my favorite show was Dr Quinn Medicine Woman and in 2004 I was invited to meet and have dinner with cast mates and other fans. I flew by myself to LA. Although I met Jane Seymour and other cast members, the best part of my trip was being invited with 17 other ladies to a private dinner with Joe Lando, my favorite actor, who played Sully on the show. He couldn't be at the dinner with the cast so he offered this private time with us. We met at the restaurant and he stayed with us for four hours! We laughed, took pictures, and listened to the great stories about his life as an actor and as a father. He tells the best stories! He is a great person to know. I became a bigger fan from that night on. I wish I hadn't let the weight get away from me over these past years, but I am told it all comes with age. I have been trying harder to watch the calories and the fat grams. I drink mostly water now. Still too many aches and pains though to try any exercising so I do the best I can. I heard about the VBHS reunion. Although I did not actually graduate with the class of "74 in VB, I still remained a Pointer at heart. If anyone took pics I would love to see them here. If I won $100 million, I'd give some of it to my children, then spend the rest on my home, some charities and save some for a special time.
