Penny's Story
After high school I went to Georgia State University in Atlanta, where I met and married a music major. Dropped out of school, had a son, got divorced and moved back to DeKalb, IL. Worked in a medical clinic there, then enlisted in the USAF and went to Texas for basic training in electronics. From there they sent me to Biloxi, Miss. for training school to be a microwave radio technician. Spent my entire career at Andrews AFB in Camp Springs, MD. Got out in 1978, started working for Sycor, which was a computer company out of Ann Arbor Michigan, as a computer technician. That year I also married my present husband, who I had met in the Air Force. Continued working as a computer tech ...Expand for more
for Sycor and several other companies after that.
Eventually got tired of lugging a suitcase full of tools around and became a purchasing agent for Micro Research, which was another computer company. Then got into administration jobs full time, and worked for Mountain Computer, who manufactured backup tape drives. Finally ended up working for a house builder, and then worked admin in real estate for 10 years or so.
Had a daughter in 1989, and now I'm retired. Learning to play piano taking web classes, sing in a local Chorale group of about 80 people, and am a cancer survivor of 3 years! YAY! My husband still works in communications, and my daughter is going to community college.
