Penny's Story
Went to Vancouver Vocational Institute for Radio Marine Electronics and Communications for 2 years then went to sea as a ships Radio Officer for 13 years mostly with a Japanese Company. Quit sailing in 1985 and joined the Canadian Coast Guard in Prince Rupert as a Radio Communications Officer. Feds combined us into Marine Communications and Traffic Services in 1996. Moved to Comox MCTS in 2006 and when Feds decided to close Comox MCTS and shift all staff to Victoria, I retired in May 2016 instead of moving. After 13 years at sea and 31 with the Coast Guard it was time to pull the plug. Never married or had kids and did not miss it. One year retired coming up and loving it.
