Penny's Story
Life
About myself, I work with the fashion and costume industries. My work has been seen on VH-1, BBC, Cinamax, NBC bridal history show, Weakest Link, The Family Channel, etc. I do fashion history research for some of these networks, or shows. I also own the largest website for educational materials for the fashion & costume world. I have an online library and school, the largest in the industry. I do historic fashions consultation for fashion and costume designers for films, museums, theater, museum curators, screen writers, collectors, geneologists, and authors. That six years in home ec. in jr. and high school paid off!!! Also, I have been a college professor for fashion history.
My Spouse
We meet in a speech class at Jeff Davis Jr. College. He is from Gulfport. We have been married 31 years.
My Pets
I have a mutt dog and two cats, all females.
My Kids
We have 6 kids... 5 sons and a daughter. One is in college at Southern Miss. All the rest of the kids live within 15 minutes of us in Virginia. Only one kid is left at home.
School
My favorite teacher was Mrs. Coward, the art teacher, and drafting teacher (can't recall their names). I actually learned skills in these classes that I used in college and now in my career. Currently I teach people around the world these skills. Would I do take these classes again, in a heartbeat!
Funniest moment... won't mention names but when some...Expand for more
one put Nair on their eyebrows and the brows' hair disappeared! It wasn't me! Second funniest moment was at the 20th reunion... my sisters did you all in!!!!! I just walked behind my sisters and no one knew who I was. Needless to say, my sisters want to come to the 30th reunion.
Something that is funny now about school was the computer report card paper that the teachers wrote in the grades. Don't think my reports cards were ever really computer generated.
One of the coolest things was when we went to school from noon to 6 pm. Creative people come alive in the afternoon. I hate mornings!
Some people I would love to see at the reunion, Vivian Davis (she always inspired me to sew better), Jack Swanson, and Stephanie Pennex. I hope Cecelia Kittle makes it to a reunion. I heard from Cecelia a couple of years ago, but haven't heard at all from the others.
My crushes stay a secret! Always have, always will!
Craziest moment...someone playing the Woodstock album in the Library, the F-U-- part, at Elizabeth Keys school. The poor librarian was going crazy trying to figure out where the music was coming from and who was playing it. I think the record player was in or just outside the window.
Another crazy memory was of David Jones in Mississippi History. The teacher alloted time for him to tell jokes. More E. Keys... the teacher who wanted to take her students to the graveyard!
