Penny's Story
Ever heard the saying "It's hard to hit a moving target?" It's true! I am living proof!
I moved around so much in High School that I'm sure very few people even remember who I am ... Four different schools (Dinuba, Exeter, Western and Redwood) in two states (California and Nevada).
After graduation from Redwood, I moved to El Paso, Texas, met and married my first husband. We did a short stint in South Dakota (where I cried my eyes out on Easter Sunday, watching the snow fall and begging to go home to California!) then on to Southern Cal (the crying worked!) where my daughter was born in 1972. Hubby and I divorced two years later and I managed to stay single for 16 years until I (unfortunately) met and married one of the great con-artists of our time.
After the divorce in '74, I ended up in the Bay Area and worked in construction as a Project Accountant and Cost Analyst (even though I HATED math all thru school ... go figure!). I loved every minute of it! Always a new project, a new place, new people ... kind of like ...Expand for more
High School, I guess ... but after divorce #2 from the con-artist, I made BIG changes in my life. I quit my job, packed everything up, moved back to the San Joaquin Valley and bought a small restaurant. Just as it was starting to break even, 9/11 happened. It wasn't just NY businesses affected by that bit of insanity.
Sold the business, drove across country from California to Maine (!!), stopped in Texas on the way and reconnected with a man I had dated 20 years previously when we had both been involved on a project in Malibu, two years later we moved to Virginia together, 2 years after that, we got married and are now living in Texas.
Which is where I started out after High School! Ok, different part of Texas, but it's Texas, nonetheless. The difference this time is that I am NOT going anywhere!
Between us, we have 3 kids (my daughter and his two sons), sons-and daughters-in-law, six beautiful grandchildren (3 boys, 3 girls), two dogs and one cat. We're happy, secure, content and staying firmly stuck on solid ground.
