Penny's Story

Life I haven't left Martinsburg. I am married, I have a stepdaughter who is in the 7th grade at Musselman Middle School. I'm sorry Bulldog fans, I married a Martinsburg rival and now am living near Inwood. I work in the medical record field at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown and we live on a 25 acre farm; although that profile photo is a photo from a petting zoo. We do not have animals on this property - wayyy to busy for that, right now. I've joined sparkpeople.com. If you're from the class of 1987, no matter what school, and you're looking to lose weight or just live a healthy lifestyle, come to this website. It's absolutely free and I've found two other classmates as well. Another great way to meet and greet and talk online. If you decide to join, tell them MAEWINGS sent you. School I never had a big crush on anyone specific, I was such a book worm nerd that crushes did not apply to me, nor was a pretty sight to see as the pretty cheerleaders were, LOL! You either had to be in the band or a cheerleader to be noticed, as far as I was concerned. The teacher that inspired me the most was Judith Childs, my English 9A teacher. She was very nice and she made English fun, in fact I loved all my teachers throughout the entire four years there. No one can forget the antics from Marshall Mason and Dale Hicks, or Jerry Tabb. And anyone who had history or psychology with Mr. Moffit, as well. The funnest (is that a word?) year was our senior year where we got away with everything under the sun. I attended my first skip day party and had a blast ...Expand for more
there; although I was disappointed when I found some I admired did dip into a beer or joint or two. I couldn't have had the best time of my life without my best friend Dena (Albright) Spies. I'm glad I got photos of our principal, Ralph Waldo, before he died later. And, if I had to do it all over again, would I? Sure, I think I would. Those days seem so much simpler then, than what we're facing today in schools. Workplace Worklife - this is interesting, maybe. Let's see, while in school, I worked for the Martinsburg Journal typing, of course. Then, when I got my work permit, I worked at Aiken's Steak House. When they went under, I moved to Ponderosa. After high school, I stayed on with the Journal on the weekends, and moved on to Care Haven as a nursing assistant. From there, I went to Chambers Chiropractic and then on to the IRS for 14 years. I spent one year at the VA Center, then one year at Behavioral Health Services at the Shenandoah Valley Health System and am now at Washington County Hospital. Military Hmmm...no military life for me. I remember, though, when I asked my father about going into the Army he about flipped his lid. How did he find out? Well, I had already went to take the test and passed and was going for my nursing degree. It wasn't until the letter came in the mail and he read it and demanded I don't go. He didn't want his little girl in the field of war. Back then, it was voluntary for females and because I was still a minor, that got cut short. Oh well, I tried. And, if I did go that direction, who knows where I'd be today.
