Staff Sergeant Core was born in Ohio, and at the age of 1 moved to Masontown, Pennsylvania. Graduated from Tri-Valley High school in 1988 and Joined the Marine Corps Feberuary 10, 1989. Six days later he reported to Fox Company, 2nd Platoon, series 2035 at MCRD, Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduating recruit training, Pvt. Core reported to School of Infantry, Infantry Training Battalion, Camp Geiger North Carolina upon graduating SOI, Pvt. Core reported to security force school located at Camp Pendelton, Virginia Beach, Virginia. Upon graduating he was permoted to Private First Class and reported to Marine Corps Security Force Company, Yorktown Virginia. Pfc. Core served as a basic security guard and was meritouriously permoted to Lance Corporal.
In March of 1992, Lance Corporal Core reported to Gulf Co. 2nd Battalion 4th Marines, serving as a Rifleman and deploying to the Mediterranean, Lcpl. Core was meritoriously permoted to Corporal and re-assigned as fire team leader 2nd Platoon. In Jan of 1993 Cpl Core re-enlisted and was transferred to HQ platoon, Alfa Company, 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, Camp LeJeune, NC where he was meritouriously permoted to Sergeant.
In November 1994 Sergeant Core reported to The Basic School, Enlisted Instructor Company Quantico, Va where he was Guide for 3rd Platoon and supported the training of The Basic School and Infantry Officers Course. He was transferred to Infantry Officer Cour...Expand for more

In August 1995 Sergeant Core was selected for recruiting duty and assigned to recruiting station Charleston West Virgina and worked out of the Primary contact station Fairmont West Virgina June of 1996. He was awarded recruiter of the year for 1997 and meritouriosly permoted to Staff Sergeant.
SSgt Core was transferred to 3rd battalion 4th Marines and then reassigned back to recruiting duty October 2000 due to humanatarion reasons. Staff Sergeant Core was Non commisioned officer of Recruiting Station Uniontown, Pennsylvania and served as a canvasing recruiter until June of 2003 and then reassigned to 1st Battalion 7th Marines as Platoon Sergeant Charlie Company 3rd Platoon. In August 2004 Staff Sergeant Core deployed to Iraq in support of operation Iraqi freedom and served in the Al Ambar province until March of 2005. SSgt Core was transferred to Baker Company as Platoon Sgt. Wpns Plt and in Feberuary 2006 Staff Sergeant Core re-deployed to Iraq in support of operation Iraqi freedom and served near the Syran border at camp Gannon in the Al Ambar province until March of 2006. SSgt Core re-enlisted and was assigned to Kilo Company 3rd Battalion 25th Marines Moundsville, WV and serves as as Operations Chief. Which is his current duty station.
SSgt. Core is married to the former Robin. E. Samples a 1988 graduate of Tri-Valley and has 3 children, Lindsey 14, Alli 11 and John Jr 1. John and Robin will be married 17 years on the 20th of June. He will retire from the Marine Corps in February of 2009 and plans to attend the police accadamy and become a Pennsylvania state police officer.
