Percy's Story

Update 8/28/2009 Just got back from vacating in Aruba and it's the closet thing to paradise you can find. Beautiful sunsets, friendly people, great food, gambling and a cool breeze. We loved it so much be got a place there. We have friends who have a place there and have been going every year for the past 23 years. We finally got down there and we were hooked the first evening. Well it's back to reality and works and projects around the house. Well for my inner geek I built a new computer server for the house, 3 terabytes of storage. At work we only have 1 terabyte. LOL. This weekend I'm finishing up a four zone distributed audio system. You can play the same or a different audio source in any zone. First two are in and it does sound sweet. Update 7/22/2009 For those from East High in Columbus who keep trying to figure out who the heck I am , no I did not go to East High. But I did go to Champion Jr High and graduated in 1964 and I was hoping to connect with people from Champion who went on to East High. If you look at my photos you will see a card with some of their names on it. Update 7/9/2009 Just got the results of my last physical and the doctor said I was good for another 100,000 miles or 5 years which every comes first. I had my own business doing security cameras, home automation systems and audio/video systems. The start of this year I gave the business up and started working for the State doing the same thing I was doing in my business except with out all the overhead and long hours. Well I thought I was out, "Just when I think I'm out they pull me back in". Some of my former clients will not let anyone else do the work. I just finished a repair on a residential system, the poor guy waited four weeks until I was available. I'm doing a McDonald's and have another scheduled. Then next week I have to look at a animal hospital, they want a system so their clients can view they pets while they are in their care. Needless to say it's back to long weekends. But I am not complaining, I am truly blessed. Update 6/18/2009 Those who know me or read this whole story know that me son passed away a year ago in April on a Friday and I got the call on Saturday. This April was the first year marking his death. During that same week this April I received a call on a Saturday to tell me a blood clot had caused my daughter to have a heart attack. She is fine now and back to work. March marked a milestone, I turned 60, which I'm still trying to get my head around. I'm not feeling it, which I guess is a good thing. On a high note it's off to Aruba in an few weeks and we are planning an Alaskan course for next year. I hope all my friends are enjoying their Golden Years. When I was 30 I dreaded getting here, now that I'm here I can't imagine being any other place. Update 2/6/2009 Well it's time for an update, it's a new year, we have the first African American President and I started back to work. After six years of semi-retirement, I retired at 52, I decided to go back to work. I wasn't looking for a job, it was really out of the blue. I took a job for the Department of Health in the Information Technology department. And like all things I've been offered four...Expand for more
s other jobs, one on the same afternoon I started with DOH. Anyway I'm having fun, I'm doing all the stuff I was doing at home. Computer hardware and software, security cameras, audio and video, and phone system. And the best part is they are paying me. My wife was asked to come back to work December 2007 as a supervisor for the State after taking early retirement in November of 2006. She got promoted December 2008 to Senior Management for the State. I told her since she got promoted I was going to retire again, I can't print what she said. According to her math I have five years of retirement on her so I have to work five years after she retires again to be even. I'm not sure how that math works, but after 27 years of marriage it's OK. So in these hard economic times I and my family are very blessed. Update 11/21/2008 Am I the only one who fills out their profile. I get a number of visitors but no one fills out their profile. If you stop to read my profile please leave me a note, let me know who you are. Life. As we mature, notice I did not say get older because I didn't feel any older, we become more reflective about our lives. I have lived a blessed life, I got to live and work in far away places that some only dream of, London, the Middle East, Rotterdam, Paris, Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Barbados. I've had a successful and rewarding career. I took early retirement in 2002, tired of the corporate crap, as a Vic President and COO. Then started my own business in 2003, my wife was tired of me being around the house all the time, doing system integration. We do home automation, audio video system, security cameras and computer networking. Things I had been doing for years as a hobby and I love it. It is different climbing up on a 10' ladder when the only thing I carried for years was a cell phone to call my administrative assistant.. I also do some writing, I'm not tell what, but you have to be over 18 to read it. My health is good only problems have has been two bouts this years with kidney stones, thank God for pain killers. And I tore my rotator cuff, and this was all during same time. Kidney stone pain trumps rotator cuff. So between stones and rotator cuff the first 4 months of 2008 I never sleep more that 2 hours a night. But it is over and I feel fine. Life does have it's highs and lows and I reach a low that no parent should ever have to go through. In April of this year my son died one week before his birthday. It was sudden, a blood clot and he was gone in minutes. He was on the phone with his mother, my first wife, his last words to her were "Hi Mom, I love you" then he dropped the phone and was gone. Well I told you more than you ever wanted to know about me. Those that do remember me, fondly, please feel free to contact me I would love to hear from you. And if you've been hunting me down for some perceived slight or girl friend get over it. Trust me I don't remember it, just kidding. Champion Jr High - For my friends whom I attended Champion Jr High in Columbus Ohio, I still have the card you signed when my mother died. I often pull it out and read the names, it brings back fond memories of each of you. I would love to hear from you.
