Peter's Story

Life My Spouse in brooklyn My life took an incredible turn when I was wounded during the 1968 Tet Offensive in Vietnam. The North Vietnam Army took seventy thousand of their troops and came down the Ho Chi Minh trail and invaded thirty two cities out of the forty three which stood in South Vietnam. Hue City was the biggest most beautiful and the most religious. It was called the Pearl of the Orient. With the Marine forces, Army forces, Canadians, Australians and South Vietnamese troops we had about twenty five hundred troops all total. We were up against fifteen thousand North Vietnamese who were in that city for some time and wanted to prove to the world that they can take over a major city. Well the battle for Hue city lasted six weeks and I was wounded after the first week. I was wounded by a b-40 rocket attack and sustained a spinal cord injury. I was a radioman and my squad took over Hue University and we were attacked four separate times with me and five other marines. When the dust settled it was me and one other marine left...Expand for more
. The marine corps gave me a Silver Star for my actions in that week of fighting. After rehabilitation I went to work for the Eastern paralyzed Veterans Association and became their housing Director. Then I was the Organization President and even gave testimony on Capitol Hill in Washington to get the Americans with Disabilities act passed. I then was the Service Director for seventeen V.A.Hospitals in the tri-state area. I opened up fourteen computer clinics for disabled veterans. I also opened a computer clinic at Walter Reed Military Hospital in D.C. for the returning wounded Men and Women from Iraq and Afghanistan. I now work with Home Box Office and I lecture at all of the High schools and Colleges on Long Island, Manhattan, Brooklyn and Staten Island. I lecture about the Vietnam war and about the battle for Hue City. I pray that all of the students I went to school with and graduated with in 1966 are doing well these days. I miss all of them and I really hope they find the time to e-mail me and let me know how they are doing.
