Peter's Story
Life
After graduating Kennedy, I went to Utica College for 1 1/2 yrs while working at the McDonald's on N. Genessee st. Got accepted to West Point in 1972, and graduated from there in 1976 (went to Airborne School and got my jump wings in 1974 as a cadet). I won't go over all the jobs I've had, but will say that most of them were leadership and staff positions in units of different sizes; from platoon leader of a 20 man tank platoon to second in command of a 500 man airborne artillery battalion. Those were the jobs I liked best - being with soldiers. Retired from the Army in 1995, after serving with units in Texas, Oklahoma, Hawaii, Germany, and North Carolina. Got married in 1977 to Colleen, who I met at a West Point classmate's wedding. We are still married, and have three "kids": a 44 year old daughter (Alissa) working as a 1st grade teacher in San Diego, a 42 yr old son (Pete, Jr.)who is a deputy U.S. Marshal, and a 38 yr old son (Joey) who is working for a car dealership here in VA. old grandson, Peter III After retiring from the Army, I worked as a Junior ROTC instructor at a high school here in Virginia; helping kids learn a little bit about self-discipline, personal responsibility and leadership. I recently retired from that job as well; I now substitute teach and am a substitute bus driver. In my spare time, I like to bike or run (ran in the 1999 Richmond marathon - didn't burn up the road, but I did finish!) and am a Civil War re-enactor (a big thing here in Virginia); my unit does both Confederate and Yankee and some of us worked on the set of the movie "Gods and Generals." I always liked that period of history; now I get to "live" it, at least a few weekends a year. Still like to read, of course; though not as much as I used to. I am definitely over the bookworm phase. I even got into acting in amateur theater in the Army, but there are no theater groups where I live.
College
Didn't really get into college life at UC; I was a commuter student and had a full-time job at night.
