Peter's Story

Life Life, so far, has been astounding. I've been more than lucky, in love, with four beautiful women. I've returned to studies on many occasions .I've had numerous jobs and have finally, in my forties, found a career as a teacher. Since high school.... Travelled to live in Vancouver at 18 yrs old, with Yvonne Schumann. Stayed there for 3 years working in restaurants and enjoyed frequent visits to California. Bought a van and travelled around the States. Went back to Montreal and worked as a painter/decorator/carpenter while going through the break-up with Yvonne ( she's still one of my best friends and I visited her in L.A. last year). I re-found an earlier love of mine, Kathy Bergmann (a.k.a. Liz). We fell crazy in love and were together for 9 years. She encouraged me to go to University( at 30), where, studying nights, I got a BA in Psychology. All the while I worked in renovations, and made frequent winter trips to Miami Beach. Kathy and I had a rather tumultuous relationship and broke up a few times. At 37 I entered Theatre School at Concordia U. and in my first year there I was part of a production of Anne of Green Gables that went to Hong Kong. While in HK I met Chiu Sin Tuen (Gazaro), a student of acting, and fell in love again. Back at school for the second year of my degree, Gazaro and I had a long distance relationship; a letter a day and expensive phone calls. At Xmas, she came to meet my family, and the next summer (1995) I moved to HK to get married. In HK ( where I live to this day) I worked as a carpenter and subsequently as a general contractor, renovating offices, showrooms, luxury flats and restaurants, until 2001. All the while I held drama workshops for a wide range of people, got a couple of acting jobs and worked frequently with my wife as clowns. Through this time Gazaro and I were quite happily married. We had some problems, as she suffered from a rare disease ( Behcet's Syndrome) which finally took her life in t...Expand for more
he summer of 2003. So, having change my life completely and blessed me with happiness, she was taken away...devastating!When I visited Montreal that fall for a memorial service for Gazaro, I learned of the tragic loss of Kathy Bergmann, and felt so fortunate to have been touched by both of these loving, inspired women. At that time I had begun working as an English teacher in primary school ( not the same in HK as in Montreal). After Gazaro's death, I spent a year not working and letting myself slide a bit. Then in the summer of 2004 I was hired as an English teacher in a college, and have been working at my professional development in earnest. This work suites me well and I feel like I'll stay with it for a while. I still do some work with children's theatre; right now I'm working with a musical production of 'Alladin'. As well, each year since I've lived here, I'm a judge for the local 'School's drama festival' in February and March. And, as is my good fortune, love has found me again. A fellow worker ( Ng Sok Yung , Zoe) at the primary school has since become my new true love. Again, the relationship is fraught with difficulty...but that's the wonder of life. I live in a country village outside of the city in a big house, with my two cats. Zoe comes to visit each weekend and brings her two cats. We spend our time hiking ( lots of great trails here) biking ( lots of great trails here) going to the beach ( ten minutes from home) and wining and dining with friends. HK is an amazing city; it's packed choc a block in the urban districts and then there is wilderness just minutes from the city. I love it here and hope to stay.I've learned a bit of Cantonese. The people are easy to get along with and anything you might want or need is easily found. And all the while there's a buzz of life and growth and opportunity. I do get to visit Canada to see family and friends every couple of years. Next time will probably Xmas 2006. HK is an amazing city
