Peter's Story

Sorry about the action photos. I haven't found many decent close-ups (they probably don't exist). .. ---new updates... Update May 1st 2026... Yep, still kicking!!! No new medical issues. Only got in twelve days of snow skiing this year- only because the resort that I go to (and most of the Sierra ski resorts) had a horrible snow fall year. Dodge Ridge and many other resorts shut down for the season in mid March. I don't remember ever having seen them shut it down that early. They usually try to make it to Easter weekend (often to mid April). I got out there in January and Feb, and had already reserved my airline tickets for March. I picked up a pair of used Rossignol Arcade 88 skis and completely resurfaced and tuned them up. Had a great time on them, but only got to use them for one trip. Up to three pairs of skis now, hmmm! Have been trying to get back in shape. Started riding my Cannondale road bike again after taking a couple year hiatus. Up to 16 + miles a ride, and 4 mile walks pretty much 6-7 days a week. Still moving in to our remodeled home, but are doing it a bit at a time. Both of my daughters, Kim and Jennifer and their husbands have moved out here (NW Louisiana) from SoCal. Kim's husband's parents moved out here about six months ago and have a nice home just a few minutes form Kim and Erik's home. Two of our granddaughters, Brittany and Caileigh, have moved out here also! As all who have moved out here love it here, we expect more to follow. Update October, 2025: Back from a trip to Maori, Italy on the Amalfi Coast for my niece's wedding. She and her new Hubby had a fantastic wedding in an old converted watch tower on the water that used to be a first line of defense against any invaders. It's now a fantastic restaurant and event venue. While there got to swim in the Tyrrhenian Sea (part of the Mediterranean Sea, above Sicily) and explore a bit of Maori. We stayed in Naples for a few days then flew back to London. Stopped in at the Roman baths in the city of Bath, and visited Stonehenge...pretty cool. When we got back to the USA, we stayed with some friends in their Margaritaville home just east of Daytona Beach... Now back to the "grind". Did get some pickleball in for the first time in about 5 weeks. Oh, had a visit in one of our local hospitals the week before we left for Italy. Had a pretty painful infection due to a lodged gall stone blocking the duct feeding my stomach. The Docs finally got it out, then removed my gall bladder the next day.. Was pretty sore and weak for a bit. Our home remodel is done, and we are starting the slow process of moving to our new home... several months after I thought we'd be done. Hope to be in by XMas, and rent out our current home. that's it for now.... Update June, 2025: Yep, still "kicking"... So the ski season is over and yes, I am going thru withdrawals. I only got in about 18 days this year, due to being a minimal snow year in the Sierras, But back to my other loves and chores. Am still working on our home repair/remodel. the home is completely repainted, all new doors and windows are in, several wall and doorway modifications. Our travertine floor tile and baseboard is done. I have installed three new toilets and all that's left to do is one more toilet, the kitchen backsplash, and a bathroom wall tiled. It's been almost a year and a half, but the "home" stretch is here, and hope to start moving into it in the next few weeks. Have been getting my kayaking, pickleball, and hiking in when not working on the home. I advanced to the degree of Master Freemason last year and am progressing through the Officers positions. It is a great, worldwide organization/charity. What drew me to the Masons was that when reading all the historical books I've read, many of the people that I found as inspirational were Freemasons...here's a few: Guys like George Washington, Ben Franklin, Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, Winston Churchill, John Glenn (and other astronauts),Daniel Boone (and many, many more). No, I'm not comparing myself to any of them, but, if they were all Masons, then it was something I needed to check out... My health is still pretty good, no known major issues. I feel very blessed, and pray for all my friends and relatives with major health issues. Update January 2025: So, have made it another year... Yeah! Still living in NW Louisiana, We've been working on a major home remodeling project in one of our homes after having a huge flood from a frozen pipe burst last January (almost exactly a year ago). It's almost finished and was/is a major project. We hope to move into this home by next month. Already have one skiing trip in, which I just finished earlier this week of six days of skiing. Had a great time again even though the "snow base" at the resort was minimal. Reconnected with Mike McDaniel, an "old" MHS...Expand for more
buddy, for a ski day with him and his son Zack. It was very coincidental that we were both up at the same resort (Dodge Ridge) at the same time. Had a great time! Have been doing quite a bit of kayaking again this last year with many adventures. My daughter Kim and her husband Erik moved from Pine Valley Ca out here to a home just north east of us this last year, and have been going on my kayaking and hiking adventures with me. They like the change of pace from SoCal life. My younger daughter and her husband John have bought a home not far from Kim's town and will be moving out here from the SoCal area this summer. Great to have family here! Update June 2024: Ended up with about twenty days of skiing in this "season". Had a great time and am getting the hang of it again. After the ski season ended I finally took up an offer from a friend to try kayaking again. Have done several kayaking trips including lakes and bayous in the NW Louisiana area. It's a lot of fun and great adventures... Update Feb 2024: After getting 11 days of skiing in last year, I'm at it again! I "scored" a free Season Pass for this winter (2023-24) and am taking advantage of it. After a very slow start snow-wise this season, I'm getting in my my 2nd week long ski trip. Having a great time... I guess I never really lost my old "need for speed" desire. Lots of fresh snow on this trip. Update July, 2023: Took a trip to Portugal, Spain, Gibraltar, and Italy with Marcy, my brother Michael, his wife, Susan and their daughter Megan. We were there from mid May through the 1st week of June. Had a great time, seeing many of the very cool historical/ wonders of those countries...after I recovered from COVID! Must have caught it on the plane from Miami to Madrid. Was pretty sick for about a week so the early part of the adventure was a bit of a blur... Update May 2023... We're still living in NW Louisiana. Did a Cruise ship to Cozumel, et al a couple months ago- it confirmed my suspicions about doing the "cruise" scene... Picked up snow skiing again after about a 25 year hiatus. Had a great time (and didn't break my neck -or anything else..). Went to Dodge Ridge in the Sierras with Marcy's cousin, Mike. ended up getting in 11 days of skiing in over three trips. Not nearly as aggressive a skier as I used to be... probably a good thing... update late 2017: Marcy and I have moved to Haughton, LA (2017) a rural community east of Shreveport/Bossier City. We picked up a nice modest home in a very quiet, forested area that we both enjoy. Decided to move back there to get away from the high cost and traffic of the San Diego area, and to help out Marcy's dad who has lived that that area for his whole life. Still pretty active, doing bike rides, 5K races, and a lot of walking/hiking, backpacking. ---2017 and prior--- I have settled finally in the mountains a half hour east of San Diego where my wife and I have a home on a hill overlooking the small community of Pine Valley. We have been there since 1998 after living in San Diego, Cupertino, Baton Rouge, Shreveport (LA), Campbell (Silicon Valley), Sacramento and Pacific Grove- in reverse order. Yeah, I'm tired of moving! Okay, so its a few years later (2012) and we have moved again- a bit closer to San Diego now, in Alpine, CA where we moved in 2011. A nice Spanish style home with pool, pond, courtyard with a fountain and about an acre of land. I've been accused of still being pretty active... Still doing a lot of surfing and backpacking in addition to being an avid runner- did the San Diego Rock n Roll Marathon last year and put in over 500 miles of training for this year's run. I guess I should mention that I've qualified for the Boston Marathon twice, and ran it in 2009- very cool race and town! Got talked into trying a triathlon (or 2 or 3 or...10...) Doing about 300-350 miles a month between running, cycling and swimming (my swimming is more accurately called a "delayed and somewhat controlled drowning"...). Did the Alcatraz Challenge in 2015- a swim from Alcatraz Island to Crissy Field in San Francisco, then put on my running shoes and ran up to and across the Golden Gate Bridge (and then back to Crissy Field). We enjoy traveling- one of our favorite spots is New Orleans (yes, post-Katrina too). We have a condo in the French Quarter that we love to spend time in. We also love the Puerto Valarta- Neuva Valarta and Rosarito Beach areas of Mexico- love those Margaritas! College Monterey Penin College 1966-68 Assoc. Sci.
