Peter's Story

Life I can be reached at "pstieda at magma dot com". From the 'p' in 'pstieda' to the 'm' in 'com' is obviously all one word. The 'at' is also obviously the 'at' used in email addresses. It is necessary to be cryptic about my email address because classmates won't allow me to provide it in my bio. Life in a nutshell, so far: After highschool went on international exchange programme for six months - lived in small towns in Ontario and Ecuador for three months each - experience was life-altering, without the need for religion: Then moved to Montreal to learn French: In Montreal completed college (Cegep du Vieux Montreal) and university in French (Universite de Montreal - Stephane Dion was one of my profs. Excellent as a professor): Then moved to Osaka, Japan and taught English for 4.5 years: Then travelled around Asia (China, Nepal, Korea, India, Thailand): Then biked around Europe with my wife Akiko: Then moved back to Vancouver and worked for a bank: Then moved to Ottawa to attend law school: Then worked on Parliament Hill for a parliamentarian: Then started practicing criminal, family, and immigrati...Expand for more
on law, which I continue to do at the present time. Career in these areas of law is fascinating, particularly crim and immig. I consider myself the luckiest guy around to be able to work in such a rewarding field. Statement made with absolutely no hint of sarcasm. Civil Status: Entered into marriage, in Osaka in 1993, due to temporary leave of senses (the senses of my wife Akiko, not mine. I believe I got a pretty good deal.): Union continues to this day, and a good while longer I hope. Union has recently produced two beautiful healthy kids: Mia, will be three in June 2007, and Cohen turns one in August 2007. The Chinese characters used to write Mia's name mean blossoming love in Japanese. (The Japanese use Chinese characters in their writing system, along with a domestic writing system, if you're wondering what Chinese characters are doing in a Japanese name.) Cohen means fullness of hope. Cohen's name is appropriate. Dad is almost always full of hope, and with Cohen always smiling away, Dad believes that he's passed the torch of full hope not only to fullness of hope, but to blossoming love as well.
