Philip's Story
Life
Divorced--that's OK. Have two great sons and three beautiful grandchildren.. Oldest son is an engineer. Youngest son was a high school teacher and is now a physical trainer. We are very close.
School
Not much time for school work or socializing while at Wheaton as most of the time I was working 3 jobs, almost every evening and all weekends. That allowed me to drive a very fun mustang, which was used a lot for skipping and going to Chesapeake Beach. I definitely was not a scholar at Wheaton--that came later.
Eugene Marco was a positive teacher influence. He told me that even though it wasn't evident at Wheaton, some day I would make something of myself--he was right. I think he went on to become a long term Prinicpal at Walter Johnson HS.
College
Attended Montgomery College in Rockville from 1969 to 1971 after discharge from Air Force. Obtained AA in Urban Geography and Planning. Attended U of Md from 1971 to 1973, earning a BA in Geography and Urban Studies. Graduated Cum Laude. Started attending U of Md grad school but transferred to...Expand for more
Hood College in Frederick Md to earn a masters degree in Environmental Biology in 1982.
Military
The Air Force was a good experience for me. I met many good role models--men of integrity and purpose. It also provided a stepping stone for me--the GI bill funded my college education.
2015 Update
Retired a number of years ago after 50 years of work which started in 10th grade at Wheaton Figured 50 years was enough. In my career I was an environmental planning manager for Montgomery County, a consultant at Northrup Grumman, and an IT program manager for FDA. I'm so glad my last career direction was with FDA. A great agency dedicated to public health and welfare, a worthwhile mission to be part of. They even funded my Master’s certificate in Project Management from GW University.
Currently I am enjoying retirement with many ongoing projects, and I volunteer at the Monocacy Battlefield on Fridays, so come up for a visit.
I also now have 3 wonderful grandchildren that only live 2 hours away so I get to do the grandfather role too, Life is good.
