Philip's Story
Life
After I graduated from Gavit (1982) I attended IU in Bloomington. Freshman year was an important year for me. The pre-med thing wasn't working out (I didn't like chemistry and biology as much as I thought I did). It was during that freshman year that I became Catholic. Up until that time I had been a member of the Woodmar United Methodist Church. The following year I discerned that God was calling me to the priesthood. nd. I studied there for five years. I was ordained for the Diocese of Peoria in 1991. My first assignment was at St. Thomas in Peoria Heights. In August 1992 (right around the time of my Gavit 10 year reunion) I became the pastor of St. Mary's in Utica and the chaplain of Marquette High School in Ottawa, IL. I am currently the pastor of St. Patrick Parish in Ottawa. I am in my 7th year here. I continue to teach at Marquette--13th year now. My parents continue to live in Hammond and my brother is married and living with their two children in Michigan.
