Life
I've now retired from college teaching after 30 years, 25 of them at a major midwestern research university, where I taught mostly Renaissance and medieval English literature as well as an occasional course in Vietnam War literature. Funny ... I thought I'd miss the university as much as I still miss my years in the Air Force, but somehow the Air Force still holds first place in my (dare I be maudlin?) heart. n the local library board, and mostly doing volunteer work at church. Now that I'm (ahem) in my 80s, though, and the bodily machinery is starting to run down, I'm pretty much down to church sacristan work -- candles, pew cleanup, sanctuary setup, etc. -- starting at 4:30 am every morning, and staying for 7:00 am Mass. And of course there's still a lot of getting together with friends, either on the phone, online, or with lunches out. Can't keep a good woman down -- or me either. 😁
