Phyllis's Story
I worked at the Oklahoma Historical Society Research Center almost 15 years. Due to health problems I left December 2009. I now do more serious things like sleep late,stay up late and ENJOY it. My job was fun, because I helped the public research history for school work, including college, highschool, elementary and "History Day" students. Included were people writing books, articles, teachers,and those looking for photographs and maps.
The most popular of research is genealogy. It is very interesting aiding those "digging up" family history. I worked in every department of the Reseach Center, except "Oral History" and "Photography." I did help folks to use the "Indexes" for those collections. My main area of expertise is Genealogy/Indian Genealogy.
Before that, I was assistant librarian at a private college.
I graduated from C.S.U. in 1985 with my B.S.E. in Library Science. I was married for a short time and went to work for the State Dept. of Education, at the Stillwater R.E.S.C. I went back ...Expand for more
to college and received my M.A. in History/Museum Studies in 1993. I still can't believe that one, for in high school I flunked the first semester of American History!
I worked in food service. for 15 years, and after high school
I attended beauty school. I also bummed around for a while.
I love dogs and cats. At one time, a Christian, sister friend and I shared a 23 foot travel trailer with 7 dogs in the country. After graduating the second time, I bought my first home and we added three cats. I now have one puppy.
My hobbies are genealogy, writing poetry, and music, listening to music, and watching old movies, action films, comedies, and musicals. I am addicted to "judge" shows on TV. I also like jigsaw puzzles, word puzzles, and computer games. I love flowers. I like to travel, especially to areas in which my families have lived.
I hope you are still awake after this long Bio. I am sorry this doesn't come with an alarm clock! Let's admit it though, at our age a nap comes in handy anytime.
