Phyllis's Story
I worked from 1992 until 2005 at Jefferson Heart Institute, then I
went out on disability in May of 2005.
I developed Multiple Sclerosis in 2001;
however, it really didn't effect me as far as my work was concerned. However, my doctor only wanted me to work four days a week. I wasn't having any trouble walking or talking, or working on the computer; I just needed a day in between to rest. Well, I guess my office manager, who was there about four years, wanted to throw her weight around; so she told me it was five days or nothing. I went to ADA and everything. The case worker from ADA didn't feel like talking to anyone other than my office manager and the manager of the practice, and they stick together. Therefore, my ADA case was blown out of the water. for social security disability it takes approximately 24-26 months for any payment to come through. I was lucky that my disabilty income from Jefferson kept me going and that my partner makes enough money to get us both through the rough times.
Now I do a lot of reading, surfing the net and the most important thing, play with my four grandsons and one granddaughter.My son has two boys, 5 and 6 years old; and one of my daughters has two sons 12 and 14 and a one
year old little girl. My youngest daughter lives in Las Vegas, so we visit her a lot. I love to see shows in New York
travel quite a bit and see just about every movie out
travel quite aSo I am active, I do just get fatigued during the day. But in reality, I have never looked better because I have lost weight and I take care of myself better than ever.
