Phyllis's Story

I moved to Florida with my childhood sweet-heart when I was 19, and worked in the banking industry. At 25 I was married to a wonderful man, and became a stay at home mom to 3 great children. I recently graduated from college with a RN degree. My specialty is NICU/OB/surgery. My children and I travel to Costa Rica quite frequently, in hopes of building a house, and living there someday soon. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have good people to work with, lunch/dinner, and compassion to be able to deal with the day-to-day. My hero is my dad. He was a very loving non-judgemental man.He was very strong in his fight with cancer and lived to take care of my mom. I lived in Dayton Ohio and moved to Florida to live with my boyfriend, for the warm weather, and the healthy lifestyle. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is LIZ M, because she is my best friend and we laugh about all the funny things that we did and happened to us growing up.. Love to watch my son surf as well as other professional surfers. Love my dogs and the beach dogs in Costa Rica. My biggest surprise in life is how wonderful and fortunate I have been. Having my 3 children, going back to school, and graduating was also a surprise. I never thought I would ever go back to school. My children have taught me Resilence & Stregnth after losing their dad. I would like to see my art teacher (can't remember her name, Sister?)from Julienne HS freshman year. She always made me feel good about my drawings and taught me a lot about art. Mrs. Naughton (business) also made me feel good about myself and was very forgiving when I didn't complete my assignment and failed shorthand. I think she just passed me so I could go on to Senior year. If I won 100 million. Can't even imagine it. All I know is I would be the same person, with the same goals as I was before. I would give to the indeginous people of Costa Rica, build schools and Clinics in Africa, give to the orphans in Lithuania, and anywhere it is most needed. Never lived in a dorm, but was able to experience college life through my daugter when she lived in Gainesville and went to UF. We still visit the town just to hang out. Also going back to college at my age I was able to hang with a lot of the younger generation and loved every minute of having classes and graduating with my fellow nurses. So proud the young ones in my nursing program. They were so goal oriented, and are amazing nurses! I will be truly happy when I am living in Costa Rica and practicing nursin...Expand for more
g,(or midwifery) and hopefully opening a birth center in my little fishing village there. My first crush/first love (last time I heard) lives here in Florida. Yes I still dress like I did back in the 70s. Thanks goodness Hippie style is still in style. The weirdest job I ever had was helping park airplanes YIKES! I share my home with my daughter, which I find comforting. I have medals from the past 6 years of running the 7 mile bridge in the Keys. Every year I beat my time by a minute. As long as I keep doing the bridge I know I'm not getting old. If there were one thing I could do over I would: Demand that a loved one seek help to stop drinking. In 10 years, I hope to be living in Costa Rica. I'm going to get there by gaining experience as a RN and getting a midwifery license, and a lot of positive thinking. My best friend is: LIZ, because from the time we met we were instantly sisters and share the same humor. Even though life has taken us in different directions we are always connected. She has never forgotten my birthday and sends me hand made cards. She is so awesome and is the only person who has been there for me unconditionally. Also, Lisa K. and I share a lot of good high-school memories. I think I got her kicked out of her house a few times for bringing her home late. My first job was at Friendly Icecream, where I got paid 3.00 to scoop icecream. What I remember most about it is the time we had to shut down the store because we got snowed in. We ate all the food and icecream we wanted. My brother had to hike through the snow to pick me up and take me home. . What I will remember most as a child: Sitting in our back yard in Dayton with my mom, dad, and brothers. My mom and dad's garden. The way the sun would shine through the kitchen door at dinner time and my dad coming home from work. I hope my old friends remember all the silliness, fun, dreams, and how fortunate we were to have been able to grow up with such good parents and homes. There were 4 special friends through grade-school (Our Lady of Mercy). Liz, Beth, Fran, Phyllis. Wish I could get into contact with Beth and Fran so that I could find out the path that their lives took them in. To unwind I: I like to run,go to the gym, and have a glass of wine. The wildest thing I ever did was skip school CJ, and drive (without a license) around the school in Lisa's car. Also, at Julienne, I would try on Michelles afro wig in the bathroom and the nun would catch us. She was speechless. I know it doesn't sound so wild, but it was fun.
