Joy's Story
Life
I'm divorced and enjoy being single. I have one daughter and one son. They are both married. I also have five beautiful grand children, four grandaughters, 10 years old, 3 years old, 2 years old, and 19 months old, and a 4year old grandson.
I joined the Army in 1982 as a medic and really loved it... most of the time. I was stationed in Anniston, Alabama; Schweinfurt, Germany; Hinesville, Georgia; San Antonio, Texas; Tague, Korea; Soto Cono Airbase, Honduras; Killeen, Texas; Honolulu, Hawaii, and am now back in San Antonio. I was in Baghdad for a year until March 05. I spent a month with my family and traveling when I got back. I planned to stay in the Army and be a sergeant major before I retired, but ended up retiring as a first sergeant/master sergeant the end of October with 26 years of service.
I took three months off before I retired and three months off after I retired and spent most of the time with my family in Tennessee. I started back working at Fort Sam Houston as a civilian instructor and am now teaching medical skills to new Army medics. I have a lot of experience and love being able ...Expand for more
to train and share my experience with the new soldiers. My job required me to have National Registered EMT Paramedic certification so Ifinished that in January. I first became a paramedic in 1985, but lost my certification while I was in Germany. It's nice to have it back.
Depending on where I am and the weather, my favorite activities are roller blading, bicycling, hiking, swimming, scuba diving, hanging out at the beach, dancing, working out, and running. Most of those things are more fun doing with someone else so I haven't been doing much of them in the last couple of years except when out of town friends visit. The friends I have that live near me right now are my age and act like it much more than I do so they don't like doing the things I like to do.
My son, his wife, and their two daughters live near me so I get to see them fairly often. My daugter's husband was in Afghanistan for a year until last July, so my daughter and her three children lived with me while he was gone. I loved it. They are all at Fort Hood now. It's only two and a half hours away, so I still get to see them fairly often, too.
