Phyllis's Story
Life
I am a retired school teacher, living on a horse farm just north of Ann Arbor. I retired from the horse
business when I retired from teaching, so the horses I have left are also retired - they just play in the
pasture all day.
I have an antique shop in the little town of Hamburg, between Brighton and Ann Arbor, with a weaving
and rug hooking studio above the shop. My oldest brother, Bob, and his family live nearby, next door to my
mother, and my other brother, Tom, just retired and moved to Rockford, Illinois (in case anybody
remembers Bob or Tom, who both went to Redford). I have no kids of my own, but have loved having
nieces and nephews. My oldest niece lives in Kenya and had her first baby this year, but the rest all live
in Michigan except when they're away at school.
My mother is 91 years old and still driving, smo...Expand for more
king, and playing bridge - I see her for dinner most nights
and have learned to cook just to keep her eating.
I wrote the above in about 2003. Much has changed in the last five years. My cousin embezzled all of my mother's money, my brothers supported my no-good cousin, so we are no longer a family. I am living in my mother's house, taking care of her 24/7. We drive down to my farm once a day to take care of the animals. Now, instead of spending most of my life outdoors, I spend a lot of time on the internet, something I can do while Mother naps. I have a rug craft group on Yahoo with over 2600 members from several continents and I have a blog on blogspot. I go by the name of rughooker. Through Ann Harrison in New Hampshire, I have reconnected with my group of 8 close friends from Cooke School and I'd like to connect with more.
