Phyllis's Story
2016 Chalk one up for our Bucket List. Whose idea was this, anyway? What were we thinking? Our adventure for this year was the Coast to Coast walk across England, from St Bees on the Irish Sea to Robin Hoods Bay on the North Sea. Officially it was 192 miles, but that was without getting lost, retracing footsteps, walking in circles, etc. One evening at 7:00 pm after 10 hours of walking, our B&B hostess was considering calling out a Search and Rescue team. Everyone else was in by 5:00 pm. We were just slow. We never passed other walkers,but were passed regularly. Brits called this a walk. the other side, walking on the heather covered moors and sinking in mud up to ankles, getting lost in the fog, using walking sticks for balance through the slippery muddy paths, plodding through driving rain while feeling the water sloshing in our boots, crossing rivers hopping from rock to rock, etc. etc. One evening, by luck, attended a fundraiser for Mountain Rescue at a local pub, followed by a rock band playing music from the 1970s. And those Brits know how to party! We met many friendly and funny Brits on our travels. We also met American, Kiwis and Aussie walkers. This is a trip designed for the younger folks, not the old geezers pushing 70 years old! What an adventure.
