Rob (Larry)'s Story

Life Rob(Larry)Peters is a Senior Manager of IT Applications for Alcatel-Lucent in Naperville, Illinois (office). Yes, Larry started using his first name, Rob, many years ago as he moved to Illinois and started life anew. He has over 35 years with the company that started out as Western Electric down on Laburnum Avenue. Rob and his wife Jeanne have two beautiful daughters and live in Saint Charles, Illinois in the Red Gate Ridge subdivision. It's a wonderful community and Godson, Anthony, is only 1 block away. Our children are grown and out of the house now - so we are empty nesters! Youngest Daughter, Mary, has been married since late 2006 to Angelo Friggieri and they live in Figtree NSW Australia. In August 2008 we spent the entire month there for the birth of our first grandchild, Ashton. We arrived just 8 hours before our grandson was born (and had planned the trip over 7 months earlier). It was wonderful holding new life in our arms and we internet video with them often to stay connected. Yes, we rented a car there (but Rob was used to this as he had spent many trips in England driving on that other side). Our trip included touring up and down the coast in NSW and it was really fun. Rob joined the Illawarra Model Railway club while there and spent Friday nights visiting their layout and doing what he does best - socializing!) Our oldest daughter, D.J., married on May 30, 2009 to her soul-mate Brendan (whom she met at Knox College several years ago.) She graduated from Med School at Rush Presb. Hospital in Chicago and started her residency in Family Practice in Anderson, SC! We were very fortunate to have our grandson here from Australia while parents attended the wedding and he stayed for 3 months! Right after they left to return home to Australia, Rob took off in the T-bird and travelled to Virginia for the 1st of two family reunions. His siblings got together at the 'old home place' in Buckingham County before Jeanne flew into Richmond that Friday to be part of the 2nd family reunion with all of the cousins up in Hanover County. Yes, the T-bird was a little tightly packed as Rob & Jeanne drove south to spend more time with oldest brother, Ron & his wife, Janie, at thier home in Myrtle Beach. They treated us like more than family and we had a great time at the Carolina Opry. Leaving the ocean and Rob's family, we drove west from there to see the youngun's new home and tour western South Carolina before coming home to Chicago! For those of you with Thunderbirds, there's a 2002 Blue one in the garage that is Rob's pride & joy that has made the trip to Virgina Beach, Myrtle Beach and other places like Mechanicsville & Chester several times. It's a great road car that we...Expand for more
used for this most recent east coast tour albeit a little cramped by the time we finished the trip. Wife, Jeanne, still has her custom picture framing business in Arlington Heights, IL. Jeanne is the really crafty person in the house (other than trains) and her cross-stitch art is hanging in most rooms of the house. She's also a great cook! Although now living in the suburbs of Chicago, Rob (Larry) is a Life Member of the East Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad in Mechanicsville, Virginia (Hanover County). As a volunteer service, donations are accepted and may be sent to P. O. Box 454, Mechanicsville, Virginia 23111 and can be in memory of someone or as a regular donation earmarked for training, station upkeep or other desired use. Rob is a graduate Nittany Lion (Liberal Arts)and recommends Penn State to anyone wishing to receive an excellent education. Penn State has a superb record in placement of graduates in good career positions. Rob (Larry) is always looking to reconnect with old friends from Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and other places he's lived and will reply to all that write as he misses many old friends (and a few that have become frienemies - you know I'd like to hear from you also...). Rob is big on family (his own & Jeanne's) and has been happy to have his youngest brother come and visit 5 times in the last year (or was it 6?). While Rob doesn't get to camp or fish much anymore, he still enjoys the great outdoors when weather permits. Summer 2009 UPDATE: Keeping up with his brother, Ron, Rob has just started building the Nelson & Albemarle RR layout in the basement and while the Lionel trains will still be around the family room and the tree and the recliner and the plant and the column, etc. at Christmastime, taking up most of the room, this new HO layout will get most of his focus from now on! He's been a subscriber to Model Railroader since 1973 (someone sold me on a subscription that moved me from Railroad Model Craftsman)and now enjoys Narrow Gauge & Shortline Gazette for articles that revolve around his favorite railroad, the Nelson & Albemarle Railway, that served the Schuyler based Alberene Soapstone Company. The most recent trip to Virginia was family oriented and Rob really misses seeing the old neighborhood, friends, and having a lime-ade at Mechanicsville Drugstore. So, please write if you can either here or peters.robert(at)comcast.net so that old stories can be shared and memories can be stirred. UPDATE: Nov 2009 - Youngest daughter and GRANDSON! are here in Saint Charles for an extended stay as my family travels for another Thanksgiving here and hopefully more great times with our 16 month old who is just starting to walk and boy does he talk!
