Ralph's Story
Life
Enjoying family, learning, creating, working and helping others have been the common threads of my life.
I grew up in Torrance/Carson from age 4 until I left at age 19. Going to Delores Street School (elementary), and then Stephen M. White (junior high), I knew many people that also grew up in the area. I sometimes wonder what happened to all of them - to all of you, if you are reading this. I hope you are all doing well.
I married Barbara Obenaus in 1968 (also of Carson) and now have three grown sons (Ralph II, Brian and Ben), all also living in the Houston area.
Moved from LA to Phoenix to Albuquerque and finally to Houston. I have been in Houston since 1977.
Divorced Barbara in 1989.
Re-married in 1997 to Leslie Kane, a great medical social worker, and my best friend.
Still in contact with my best friend from Carson, Rocky Bunch. Also still in contact with Bob Kent, my best friend from BYU. I wonder what has happened to everyone else.
At Carson, in my senior year, I was very active. I was a school photographer, the president of the chemistry club (under Mrs. Stribley), a member of the chess club, a...Expand for more
member of the math club, on the gymnastics team (side hourse), on the track team (hurdles) and a member of the Knights (I think that's what it was called - service organization). Off campus, I was in the Wilmington YMCA. It was one of numerous fun years!
Life has had its' ups and downs - definitely a learning experience! I'm ready for more...
Workplace
Toooo many jobs to count - all in the name of supporting my family, education and later just for fun or money. I have run the gambit of vacuum cleaner salesman to industrial electronics specialist. Somewhere in between I stuffed many tacos, filled a few pizzas, flipped a few burgers and grilled a few dogs. From janitor to manager and business owner, I sang and danced many a moonlighting hour (literally in some cases).
Science and electronics have dominated the themes, with food, and people skills close behind. Wearing many hats has been commonplace.
Health issues flipped my life upside down several years ago, defying medical science. Turning to alternatives, I am now working toward helping others grow and find the potential within, as I continue on my own journey.
