Ralph Joseph's Story
Life
WCHS 65, USAF 1966-1970 assigned to Sembach, Germany 1967-1970.
Got out of the Air Force then attended and graduated from Sinclair CC, Dayton, OH in 1973, then continued (much later at night school for 2 years) and graduated from Capital University 1983, Columbus, OH (Computer Science and Business Admin).
Divorced in 1994. Wound up living large and single in Sarasota, Florida. My best friend, Steve Shade convinced me to come back for a WCHS 35th Class Reunion. I got married 1 year later to classmate Penny (Cooper) Meckstroth. I currently build and host websites for small/medium businesses. Working at WPAFB building the next generation websites for the Air Force using SharePoint 07. We currently live in Washington Twp. outside of Dayton, OH.
School
Quiet guy, shy, somewhat awkward.
College
After taking the required courses at Sinclair, essentially sampling lots of different areas of study I found I had a 'knack' for logical thinking. Computer Science seemed so natural for me. Overall it was a great choice for me. I've enjoyed my entire career building systems, solving complex problems, and having a fun time doing it as well. In 1982 I went back to ...Expand for more
college full time (and working full time) at Capital University and graduated in 1984 with a a B.A. in Computer Science and Bus Admin.
Military
I received a draft notice in the summer of 1966 while I was on vacation in Canada. 1966 was not a great year to be a 19 year old for sure. Vietnam was churning up guys daily and my number was up. But after looking at the situation, I thought I'd look for other opportunities in other branches of the military. I tested for the USAF and scored quite high, much higher than I had given myself credit for. Anyhow, with my great scores, I had a pretty good choice of what I'd like to do. I liked the communications area and chose the Crypto school, but it was full, so my alternate was telephone school. For 7 months, 6 hours a day, 6 days a week South West Bell Telephone crammed into me all of the how's and why's of telephone systems. After I graduated from the school, I was assigned to Sembach AB, in Germany. It didn't seem like a great assignment, but it really was much better than I had originally thought.
I learned to travel and readily adapt to different cultures. Besides, London and Berlin were always fun places to go!
