Ralph's Story
After graduation from Bowen, I went to UofI Navy Pier for 1.5 years. I joined the army in 1963. i was in for four years stationed in Korea (15th med bn), Germany (A trp 2/9th cac)and Viet Nahm (35th engineers, 1st cav and 2/18th 1st inf).
Shortly after getting out of the service I married Lillian Wiertel. That was in 1968. We are still together. Also after getting out of the service, I went back to school. I went to UofI Chicago Circle, and then on to U of I Champaign where I got my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree June 1973. . Then I moved to Mt. Horeb Wisconsin, 20 miles west of Madison, where I have lived ever since, and joined the Mount Horeb Animal Hospital.
I practiced medicine on farm animals (cows pigs sheep horses) and pets until 1993 when I went into a veterinary retail business I am engaged in this at present, but hoping to retire at the end of 2009. .
I have two children, a son and a daughter , Mike and Kim, who are my best friends now. There are two grandsons, born in 2008 and 2009, three months apart.
My hobbies over the years have included horsees, hunting, s...Expand for more
cuba diving, photography, antique collecting and for the past 6 years working with my english setter Hank in the fields. Every morning, rain or shine we are out in the jungle somewhere.
Life is good. Now I am trying to get to the end as peacefuly as possible.
Hunting of any kind. Deer, bear, turkey, pheasant.
I always wanted to be a doctor when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were surprised with my decision to be an animal doctor.
I blow off steam by shooting things like my guns or bow. Also, walking the dog in the jungle.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Leona Lezak, because i was rude to her and think sadly about it often. I would like to apologize.
My biggest surprise in life is that love and success is an ilusion. I have spent most of my life proving that to myself.
My best friend would tell you I'm a pussy cat, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as an ass hole. .
In 10 years, I hope to be alive!!. I'm going to get there by staying active with my grand kids. .
