Ramona's Story
Life
My name is Ramona Hooper Blackmon. I am the proud daughter of the late Maggie Hooper Cook and Thomas Cook. I have a beautiful daughter name JohNate Anthonesha Blackmon and a supportive husband (John Anthony Blackmon). After leaving Grenada, Mississippi,I moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana. It is a wonderful place and the best choice I could have made. I am now teaching 6th grade at Prince Chapman Academy and was recently chosen Teacher of the Year from my school.
I want to thank my mom and dad(Thomas Cook) for giving me strength and guidance throughout my life. Without your guidance, I would not have made it.
I have had struggles in my life but with the strength of my lord and savior, I have been truly blessed.
School
I was a student at Grenada High School. I graduated in the year of 1985. During my high school years, I was a member of a variety of clubs, I was a basketball cheerleader, beauty representative, and Whos Who (campus cutie). My high school years were wonderful years, now that I think back and remember all the good times we shared.
I can truly remember some of my teachers that touched my life. Mrs. Della Crowder, Mrs. Norma Crowder, Mrs. Leverette, Mr. Lewis, and Mrs. Ammons. I remember those particular teachers because they touched my life in a way that I will never forget. I thank them for taking time out of their busy schedule to make time for me and I would like to say "Thank You' again.
College
I attended Mississippi Valley State University. I received my Bachelors degree in elementary Education and my masters in the same field. I am married to John Anthony Blackmon and we have one child, JohNate Anthonesha Blackmon. I am a 6th grade teacher and I live in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
During my college years, I pledged Zeta Phi Beta with the Psi Gamma Chapter at Mississippi Valley State University and that was great.

m a successful person and I have completed all my goals. I just wish my mom (Maggie Hooper Cook)was here to see all my great accomplishments and it all comes from her great success in raising me. Not to leave out all the 2 hour lectures I received from my dad (Thomas Cook). Thanks a lot and I appreciate everything they did for me.
To all my family: Thanks for standing by me in my time of need and I love you guys. That means you too Brother. smile
A special thanks to Mrs. Sandra Smith for giving me guidance during the times of my life when I didn't know which way to turn. She showed me the way and she is why I am teaching today.
Thanks to all.....

Workplace
I started out as an assistant teacher in Grenada, Mississippi at Tie Plant Elementary School. Essie Love had faith in me and hired me as an assistant. I worked in the classroom with Sandra Smith and I learned more than you can imagine.
After completing college, I started teaching kindergarten at Winona Elementary School in Winona, Ms. This too taught me a lot and I loved the school and the children. I stayed there for 3 years and moved on to Memphis Public School District. I taught 2nd grade there and realized that all the money in the world could not keep me there. Still needing a change and trying to find my place in the world, I moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana and started teaching 6th grade. I was really scared and didn't think I could do it. I have found my place and now I am still here. We started out as Village Woods Middle School and now we are Prince Chapman Academy. I was chosen 2003-2004 "Teacher of the Year" and I was impressed. I love my job and believe it or not, during Christmas Break and spring break, I miss my kids. (smile)
Once again, giving honor to God for being the head of my household, he is in the blessing business and I can't ask for any more.
