Randall's Story
After graduation (summer school, LOL!) I went to work for the govt for a few months. I enlisted in the Marine Corps in Jan 1969 and arrived in Viet Nam one year later.
Survived 18 months in country and completed my initial four year tour and got out so I could see what I had been missing for the previous four years.
Worked a few jobs and did some time in the Marine Reserve, Army Reserve and National Guard while going to school and enjoying bachelorhood.
Eventually I did get married and I went back into the Marine Reserves because I enjoyed the camaraderie... not too many people understand that except former military types. Oh well...
Went back to active Marine Corps service in February of 1983. I saw stints in Grenada, Somalia and a few other somewhat austere locales over the next 22 and a half years.
I stayed in the Corps until my retirement in September 2005 as the last enlisted Viet Nam veteran to retire from active Marine Corps service. I enjoyed it and have no regrets at all because of good peop...Expand for more
le that I met and served with along the way. Eventually also found time to finish a double Bachelors Degree from Park University along the way.
I am currently working for a large firm with contracts with the Fed Govt and interact with all types of people everyday, most notably active, retired and former military types from all branches...good people everyone (for the most part, but every organization has its jerks).
I have been married to the same woman for 30 years and have two children, no grandkids yet and I don't know what my son is waiting for, but I guess my father thought the same thing. LOL!!
My son recently turned 27 and my daughter 19...both of the kids are smarter and better looking than me, but I guess it doesn't take much to do that. LOL!!
Anyway, that is it in a nutshell. My outlook on life is that any day above ground is a good day...although some may certainly be a little better than others! No sense in complaining, everyone has their own problems and no one has time to listen anyway.
