Randy's Story
Life
My career has been exciting. When I graduated, I wanted to make a difference by adding to scientific knowledge. However, I could never decide on the proper discipline to pursue.

Then I found the computer. Understanding computer technology as well as I do has allowed me to make contributions in many areas, always pushing that technology envelope. Sometimes I worked as an employee. Other times I worked as a contractor or for myself. I have done work for the military and other government agencies, large oil companies, electronic firms and news media.

My lifestyle has allowed me to experience a number of things a more normal lifestyle might have prevented me from enjoying. I have seen much of this country from a motorcycle, using a sleeping bag by the side of the road...Expand for more
as a motel. I have done a bit of skydiving and made a few cross-country flights with a friend of mine in a plane with questionable navigational gear. I traveled around Romania and neighboring countries while memories of the Romanian revolution were still fresh. I have lived in the Rockies, in various places along the West Coast, and now just outside the nation's capital. My life has been filled with variety.

Recently I set out for the second time to create my own software. This time I would use all the business knowledge I had gained when Microsoft had trounced me many years earlier. As a result, I now have a fledgling company, which appears to be poised for success. If that should happen, I hope to leave the company, and to turn my efforts towards applying artificial intelligence to genetic medicine. That has been a dream of mine since the first time I saw Star Trek.
