Randy's Story
After graduation from Lindbergh I knocked around with several Lindbergh classmates for roommates, including Joe Mackenzie, Robin Schuy, Kurt Palmer and Jay Hill. I attended Bellevue College and North Seattle College while holding down several jobs in the kitchens of restaurants around the area.
Sometime in there I learned to fly airplanes. Before deciding that it was an endeavour too rich for my blood I racked up 300+ hours of flight time. That also is a picture of me in a hang glider that you see in my then profile. Broken bones made me decide to abandon that kind of flying!
While working at a restaurant in Northgate I met a man who asked what I was doing there and when I answered that I was working my way through school and was enrolled in the electronics program at North Seattle College he handed me a card and offered that he could get me into something a little more related to my field of interest. n I pulled out his card an hour later I saw that he was the Chairman of the Board for Radar Electric, a local electronics distributor. I worked for his company for 28 years thereafter.
In 1980 I met and fell in love with Jill Smith. In 1984 we married. Jill, now retired, is a former teacher. In 1991 we adopted our son Ian.
We are a beach loving family. Among our favorites are Long Beach for the Kite Festival and New Year’s Eve at Ocean Shores. We’ve also enjoyed some more exotic beaches in Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, Belize, and Costa Rica.
Finally, I have a love for the wonders of the night sky. I make some of my own telescopes and telescope optics. I have viewed all of the planets in the solar system through amateur made telescopes, viewed numerous comets, watched a comet crash into Jupiter in my own homemade telescope and seen three total eclipses of the sun.
