Randy's Story
After graduating in 1983 and leaving my beloved Phi Tau house, I took a trip to Nashville with Mount Union-ite Pat Whiteman to audition for the The Nashville Network's "You Can Be a Star' show. Although I failed, I loved the town so much, I came back in six months and have been here ever since.
I waited tables and worked in music publicity and found work as a freelance writer in the music business for five years and then got a master's in English and started teaching at Tennessee State Univerisity in 1989.
In 1995, I took a job teaching English at Nashville State Community College and continued to write for various local and music publications until the summer of 2008, when I became a television producer with the Christian Broadcasting ...Expand for more
Network's Nashville office.
I met my wife Clare (a Texan and Baylor grad) in 1996. We married in 1998.
Our house burned down in 2002 and we moved to Memphis for a short while so I could complete a master of fine arts in creative writing.
We have one daughter, Abigail, who is 7. I play guitar and bass in the praise band at my church, the Joy Church international, in Mt. Juliet, TN and we love to get off to the Smoky Mountains every chance we get.
Clare homeschools Abigail and teaches creative writing part-time at a home school support program in Franklin, TN
My parents are still alive back in Wellsville, Ohio, so I get back there quite often also.
I am looking forward to seeing some folks from the classes of '82 and '83 in October.
