Randy's Story
Life
After high school I went away to college for the formative years of my development. Met a wonderful person there who has been my friend for 25 years and my wife for 19 of them. Worked a few years then went back to graduate school after graduation. My first son, Benjamin was born while I was still in graduate school, that was 1991. Received my PhD in 1992 and then landed the best job of my chemistry career at Sandoz Agro, in Palo Alto. We moved to Santa Clara where we have been residents ever since. The people at Sandoz were the best, never had so much fun and intellectual stimulation at the same time. My daughter Sarah was born in 1994. But, all good things come to an end, and mergers and aquisitions in the pharmaceutical industry tooks its toll and the obvious phasing out of our division caused me to look elsewhere for employment. I wound up at Affymax, just a few miles away, and spent several years there exploring the uselessness of combinatorial chemistry, realizing that once again, I was working in a company that was heading for the crapper. Jacob was born in 1998. Jumped ship like a rat to Xenoport in 2000, where I have been ever since. My family delights me everyday, my three children and my wife are the highlights of my life. I love working in my childrens classroom, playing with them, supporting them in whatever endeavor they choose. Benjamin is now 15, Sarah 12, Jacob is 8.

rvative, an imparted effect of my family. But oh, how the world has changed, hard to imagine how anyone could describe him/herself as conservative now and have a conscience at the same time. I still love the outdoors as I did then, camping, fishing, and hiking. Only wish there was more free time to do those things. I aspire to backpacking the Pacific Crest Trail all the way from Mexico to Canada. If only I could win the lottery....
I volunteer one day a week working in my son's classroom at a wonderful school, something I have done with all my children, a great way to get to know them and their friends better. I love working in my yard in my spare time, creating a private sanctuary away from the rest of the world. Continue to do the little league coaching thing, but I only like to coach the lower divisions, before it gets ultracompetitive, the competition takes all the fun out of it. I play on a coed softball team as long as my aching knees allow.
I still remember many of you, my buddies SH, SM, RD, SY, DD. Hard to believe some of the stupid stuff we did. What ever happened to BM? Strange out of all the people I knew, you are the one I am always the most curious about. All those MUN'ers, and that ridiculous KLO stuff. LRC the sweetest person I knew trying to always act tough. Can't forget that up and down, manic senior year I had, only overshadowed by the shennanagins of SM, who truly had one.
Well, time flies by so quickly, drop a line and say Hi if you get the chance.
