Randy's Story
My first job was in the US Navy, where I got paid $600/month to fly airplanes off carrier decks. What I remember most about it is I loved every minute!
I entered the Navy from college. I trained as a Naval Aviator and started as a carrier pilot flying A-7 Corsairs from the USS America and USS Nimitz. I was stationed at NAS Cecil Field Florida from 1972 until 1979. I flew in the Naval Reserves (A-7's, also) until my retirement from the Navy in 1995 at the rank of Captain. My last assignment was a Commanding Officer of Attack Squadron 205 based at NAS Atlanta, GA. I was flying at Delta Airlines, too, at the time- two flying jobs at the same time! What a life! Of course, I didn't have a vacation day for thirteen years, but both my jobs were like vacations anyway. Now, I'm retired from both th...Expand for more
e Navy and Delta.
I always wanted to be a pilot when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right.
My passion now is hunting with my bird dogs all over the country. Being retired does have advantages.
My current age is 70. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be dead. I was so completely surprised that people this age can walk and talk, much less think.
In 10 years, I hope to be finishing my third book about the wandering bird hunter. I'm going to get there by starting the first chapter.
One thing about growing up in Alaska is that I will never suffer from the boring childhood syndrome. Little did I realize how wonderful it was; I thought everyone grew up like that! My two books about bird hunting are on Amazon.
